Let your kid fail

submitted by MaryXmas to Fatherhood 4 monthsDec 9, 2024 20:27:49 ago (+10/-0)     (Fatherhood)

Initially, this sounds like a good parenting method as it builds resilience and problem solving but I don't think this is good parenting, and I think it is very lazy. There is a whole book called anti-fragile that is a good read and I would recommend. I am not advocating for helicopter parenting or raising soft children, but after a certain point of struggle, they fail to learn the best way to tackle a problem. You need to let them struggle and then support with giving them chain of thought process in order to solve the problem.

What the fuck did humans do before all of these books came out telling everyone how to raise their kids?

They probably just showed their kids how to do shit rather than playing games.

They asked their parents and grandparents, and aunts and uncles if they were close.

Let your kid fall, not fail. Demand that they meet expectations, and raise the bar every once in a while that they cannot meet.

Who the fuck is raising their kids based on books they're reading? When my kids were 6 or so (I don't remember how old exactly but before they turned 10), I made them sit and read for 45 minutes of every summer vacation day and weekends, whether they had summer camp or not. They weren't very happy with me as I wasn't with me mum for doing the same to me when I was a kid. I credit my mother with the greatest gift she ever gave me, love of reading. She didn't choose the books my brothers and sisters read and I didn't choose my girls. I made sure they weren't salacious or improper but other than that, hands off. Teach your kids to love reading and the rest will come naturally and they'll love you for it! And DON'T let your kids fail, that's fucking lazy parenting! Your kids are worth more than that if they're White!

Knowledge is the product of one's mistakes...wisdom is the product of observing the mistakes of others...pay attention to what's going on around you, an apprentice learns by watching how things are done, both correctly and incorrectly...if a person slips on the ice while holding on to a set of boot cleats they should learn that it was a dumb mistake to not have the cleats fitted to the boots...a bystander taking note of the slip, if they're not a retarded dumb fuck, now knows how important it is to be equipped with the cleats prior to walking on ice...a dumb stupid fuck would continue to hold onto the cleats. When observing nature one will note that animals pay close attention and mimic the adult's behavioral motions...of course if the kid is focused on the tic toc or rainbow shit and not paying attention to surrounding activities then they're fucked just like their useless fagged parent(s).
A stupid person never learns from their mistakes, an intelligent person will...but a wise person will learn from the mistakes of others.

Bro, it’s called the Zone of Proximal Development. We give a child enough scaffolding to drive them to complete a task and learn without doing the work for them.

What’s helpful is knowing that entire books have been written on subjects ranging from alchemy to zoology and everything in between.

I’ve seen both sides of the dang spectrum. I struggled while my middle class friends were pampered. I’ve come a long way in comparison, but man, it would have been great to have guidance.

Actually, I change my comment:

I read that as Let Your Kid Fall and was like When did Eric Clapton join Voat?

The difference between a child and a bag of dope is, Clapton never let a bag of dope fall out a window.
