I heard that TV shows have a habit of inserting the agenda in season 2 after letting season 1 play out and getting people to not find an issue and get them and their families to watch.

There is no good reason for a mentally ill character to be portrayed in a TV show. Especially not as brave, self-sacrificing, and resilient, which is not what they are.
