I've heard pilots talk about having a sort of "connection" with planes or helicopters that they fly regularly. I imagine it's something like the feeling most of us get from driving a car, but they have a much deeper understanding of a more complex machine to operate.

If any of the people whose job it is to know something like "How is the fuel pressure?" has even the smallest concern, the wise man would exercise caution. Better a delay than a catastrophic malfunction. Best case scenario, you're wrong- but I'm sure you'd be abiding by OSHA and company safety procedures as a pilot by exercising your authority to ground a flight.

The pressure to not make these calls must be huge for the money hungry owners.

But imagine that, people clap because turns out, they'd rather be late then die.

Here at Liberal White Woman airlines we value feelings over reality, so we're going to go ahead with the flight. Because we don't want anyone to feel bad about a delayed flight. Also: Black Lives Matter, and gender is a construct of the patriarchy.

I'd assume making this call is one of his duties. He's hired to make this call occasionally. Part of piloting a plane is steering around catastrophe. Scrubbing the flight is one way this is done.

Of course the real reason is he probably saw too many DEI hires working maintenance and knew it was unsafe.
