Well, it's that time... It's Friday, of course. This being Friday, it's time for the new Friday Night Guitar Thread. Man, we've been doing this for a long time... Still, feel free to come and join us. Just share your music that you made.

submitted by TheRealBuddha to Guitar 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 19:52:21 ago (+21/-2)     (Guitar)

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should upgoat go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @Sleazy or myself).

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

Hello. This woman that we know and had taken her words and set them to music a few weeks back called me and asked if Chris and I could record her song again, this time without people in the background talking, and if we could make it longer, cause it was only 2 minutes long, and she says, aren't most songs longer than that? So I said sure.

My friend Chris came over to jam earlier this week and I told him what she had said to me to we recorded her song again, I added a couple guitar solos to make it longer than it was. And we told everybody to shut up LoL

They got troubles of their own

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 3 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:21:35 ago (+3/-0)

Some trivia for you... Songs used to only be around two minutes long, maybe two minutes and thirty seconds.

This time barrier kept a lot of songs off the radio back in the day. The radio would only play songs in that range and nothing longer. So, if you look at older songs they're often two minutes to two minutes and thirty seconds.

It was The Doors that changed that. They were so popular, and their songs often long, that the radio stations had no choice but to play them.

[ - ] ChatGPT 3 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:47:20 ago (+3/-0)

Yeah I love those pre-70's records. Short and to the point. I like the early Beatles more than the studio Beatles. Short, melodic, harmonic and on to the next track.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 22:01:05 ago (+2/-0)

To me, it depends on the song. Some of 'em could end a lot sooner. Others are something that I could enjoy a while longer.

[ - ] ChatGPT 1 point 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 22:37:03 ago (+1/-0)*

I know. I was like that too but then I learned to like the short songs that were good and accept it. It's like, I'm satisfied with that and move on. I love All My Loving (Beatles) but it's too short but hey I'll take it.

Then you got Free Bird (live) which goes on and on. I just switch channels when I get sick of the long outro. It's what is known as masterbating the guitar.

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:22:37 ago (+2/-0)

Thats cool.

I still dont like the Doors, but I appreciate that they did that

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 3 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:26:58 ago (+3/-0)

Yeah, I know... I love me some of The Doors. I'm a pretty big fan of Jim. At one point in my life, I kind of expected to be similar to him, including dying fairly young.

[ - ] Sleazy 3 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:30:39 ago (+3/-0)

Well I for one am glad that you didnt die young

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 3 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:39:20 ago (+3/-0)

I am amazed that I've lived this long.

I partied hard and took a lot of risks. Though, that risk taking thing made me who I am today, it was still sometimes pretty dangerous.

[ - ] Sleazy 3 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:57:10 ago (+3/-0)

You still drive like a maniac!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:12:05 ago (+2/-0)

Sort of...

I drive within my limits - and don't drive faster than I can stop.

But, yes, it's still maniacal. I'm a wee bit more restrained than I used to be because I don't want to break a femur again!

So, while I drive in a spirited manner, it's generally fairly safe to do. If it suddenly turns unsafe, I'm usually competent enough to deal with that situation.

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:14:35 ago (+2/-0)

As I do not hear of you telling me that you had an accident at all, except when others are driving, I assume that you know when you can let it rip and when to take it easy.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:19:25 ago (+2/-0)

So far so good.

I have however had an accident or two - but none went on my record as my fault.

There have been some contacts with snowbanks that never got reported. Though, I don't think I'd call them accidents so much as 'training incidents'. Pushing my limits in the snow, when there are safe snowbanks to catch me, is something I've done before.

Also, I once drove drunk into my house. I was only going a few MPH, but it was enough to damage the siding. That was many years ago.

[ - ] ParnellsUprising 1 point 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:13:06 ago (+1/-0)

That would be music fit to be "aired", which the jews basically controlled, although did not have a stranglehold at that time, but close to it.

At any rate, if you really wanted to say the OG that made long songs, you might look at Bach, but there may be others, really have not thought about it in that way.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:17:24 ago (+2/-0)

Take your meds.

[ - ] ParnellsUprising 1 point 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:24:12 ago (+1/-0)

I really did not mean that antagonistically, yet for some reason you have taken it that way.

I'll just drop this little gem for you to savour on:

https://jewishjournal.com/culture/arts/books/343781/new-memoir-by-the-doors-robby-krieger-sets-the-record-straight/

I am of the opinion to take jews at their word on things of this nature.

[ - ] ChatGPT 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:42:40 ago (+2/-0)

That is really good. You guys are getting better and better.

[ - ] Sleazy 0 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 23:41:41 ago (+0/-0)

Thanks!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 6 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 19:52:31 ago (+6/-0)

Hello and welcome to another Friday Night Guitar Thread! Like normal, we'll get you started.

I don't have anything new, so let's share something from the archives!

John Fogerty - The Old Man Down The Road

That was a surpringly involved piece of work. But, it's one that most everyone knows and loves.

Rock on, Goats! Rock on!

[ - ] ChatGPT 3 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:55:25 ago (+3/-0)

That's one of those many bands(every artist actually) that had those 2 and half minute songs. There were all kinds of those back in the AM radio days. There was no FM at the time. Great music. Will never be surpassed.

No, the kikes didn't control that shit. Sometime you gotta put yourself in those days and figure that was part and parcel to the times.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 22:04:48 ago (+2/-0)

Yeah, it's a bit longer. AM channels were often much more local, generally by their very nature in how AM waves propagate. FM had greater range, higher power, and offered stereo eventually. There's enough bandwidth in the signal to include stereo, which was a bonus.

[ - ] ChatGPT 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 23:11:20 ago (+2/-0)

Well I remember there was no FM till the late 60's, early 70's. Music was great when there was only AM. Top 40 hits going back to the, I don't know, 20's 30's? Love those old records.

Before radio, you had to read sheet music and play the piano to listen to music. That's pretty cool too. Or sit around and have your own little band. Must've been great.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 0 points 6 monthsNov 23, 2024 13:57:00 ago (+0/-0)

Nah, FM was much earlier than that - by a couple of decades. You might have lived in an area without any FM coverage or maybe you just had radios that only picked up AM. Buggered if I know, but FM was around in the 40s.

We had FM prior to WWII. We also used the FM bands/modulation for some of our encrypted messaging during the war. As I recall, there weren't a lot of FM channels until after the war.

All that aside, you can still do those things. You can learn to read music, make music at home, and have musician friends or a band to play with. I've done those things for about six decades.

There's a reason why we had 'parlor guitars' and why they were so popular.

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:15:29 ago (+2/-0)

Sounds excellent, spot on with the way it sounds in my memory. Just like I expected it to sound. Note for note, perfection! Hell yeah!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:25:50 ago (+2/-0)

It's not too hard to get that sound out of a guitar. He didn't use a bunch of effects or anything, so it's not too hard.

Glad ya liked it.

[ - ] UncleCarl 4 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:16:22 ago (+4/-0)

Evening folks I hope everyone is well.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 3 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:22:04 ago (+3/-0)

Everything is good at my end. I hope the same is true for you.

[ - ] UncleCarl 3 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:31:26 ago (+3/-0)

It's getting better Buddah.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:39:44 ago (+2/-0)

Glad to hear it.

You had a death in the family, if I understand correctly?

[ - ] UncleCarl 3 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:43:22 ago (+3/-0)

We had two within 2 weeks. it was pretty rough for a while.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 3 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:10:10 ago (+3/-0)

Yeah, that can be pretty tough.

One of the worst things about getting old is that people die and you deal with more deaths because of it.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:21:37 ago (+1/-0)

Hello there Carl! It's great to see you again! I am doing ok, I hope that you been doing all right, and are still singing and picking. It's nice to have you join us again!

[ - ] UncleCarl 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:33:07 ago (+2/-0)

Evening Sleazy I am really glad to be back. Hope all is well with you.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:55:38 ago (+1/-0)

My sons are here with me and my daughter is going to make me a grampa in the next couple weeks here so things are pretty good

[ - ] UncleCarl 3 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:41:04 ago (+3/-0)

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 3 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:16:05 ago (+3/-0)

If you've shared it before, I do not remember it.

That could mean you didn't share it - and it could mean that I simply don't remember it.

In my defense, we've been doing this since 2018. I can't possibly remember everything! We did have archives but COF passed away. Nobody has jumped in to take over the task. One dude started and they just disappeared.

[ - ] popticalillusion 1 point 6 monthsNov 23, 2024 17:31:34 ago (+1/-0)

Great cover! I have a project that I am starting with some veterans, They keep me busy IRL so I haven't been archiving for a long time now.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 0 points 6 monthsNov 23, 2024 17:53:05 ago (+0/-0)

Glad you like it and it's good to hear you're working with vets. What are you doing with them, if you don't mind sharing?

And, we've had a bunch of good music since you were last around. Sadly, nobody archives it. I do enough for the thread. I'm not going to add to my obligations. So, it just doesn't get done. Sleazy was once doing it but he didn't last more than a month.

LOL It should take less than 30 minutes but it just doesn't get done. Maybe I'll consider picking it back up again and just doing the work myself.

[ - ] popticalillusion 1 point 6 monthsDec 17, 2024 06:58:48 ago (+1/-0)

There's a niche of veterans that doesn't get much attention, but could use some additional help. The single and disabled veterans don't have as many people that help them for everyday tasks and getting them to their appointments. The system would rather they be put in nursing homes, when they are still functional.
The disability pay they get is pretty minimal and it's hard to do much more than survive off the amount. 3 of us decided to get us a place together for that reason.
We met a Vietnam era Veteran, who has control of a nonprofit organization and wants to give back to any needy community members with families in Louisville. The plan is to get a building constructed where we can live together.
I would use my particular skills to build the networks needed, setup the systems, system maintenance, website design, setup security policies and monitor physical security. Hopefully I get a sizeable budget for the equipment where we would be able to host websites other than our own on the server I want to build.
There's a lot of money that one of them has that was acquired by nefarious activities in the past and he wants to do something good for the community with it. I suspect his politician friend who is helping may have the same issue.
I reviewed all the paperwork and it seems legit, but I still need to see the construction begin before I am convinced he's not full of shit.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 0 points 6 monthsDec 18, 2024 17:35:22 ago (+0/-0)

Yeah, it's probably best to do due diligence and ensure they're not blowing smoke up your ass.

The way we treat vets is deplorable. The thing is, it has actually improved. It used to be a fuck of a lot worse. Hell, the GI Bill is actually useful today. When I served, it was a paltry sum that wouldn't even cover your basic living expenses. I want to say it was like $175 a month and that was only while you were attending a full shedule's worth of classes. So, you were pretty well screwed if you also had to work and during the summer semester.

It's much better today.

So far, everything has worked out just fine for the veteran's outreach program and their Smart Building project.
I have a few AI generated songs I can share.I have 2 AI models that I am training, but I haven't attempted to make music with mine yet. One is TechGenie Community Support - An I.T. Expert level assistant, which has enabled me to relicense my business and get a restart on it.

We should have a guitar thread tonight.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:05:27 ago (+1/-0)

I remember this song. I love this song.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:24:56 ago (+2/-0)

I'm listening now and it's great to hear from you again.

I tried to reply multiple times on YouTube but that site won't let you post URLs in the comments, probably to prevent spam.

I'm digging your song. When I saw the title, I was like "Nah, he didn't cover Bob Dylan". So, it turns out to be a song I'm not familiar with.

[ - ] UncleCarl 3 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:30:11 ago (+3/-0)

It's great to be back. That's an old Band Of Heathens song. I really like songs that weren't popular.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:38:20 ago (+2/-0)

Yeah, a lot of what I enjoy is stuff that hasn't been played on the radio.

[ - ] UncleCarl 3 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:47:26 ago (+3/-0)

Yes I've been leaning a lot of John Prine and Blaze Foly songs as of late.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:10:32 ago (+2/-0)

Sweet! I look forward to hearing them and learning about them.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:57:50 ago (+1/-0)

Chris and I have been playing a lot of John Prine and Blaze Foley too!

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 20:37:28 ago (+1/-0)

That sounds great, you sang that different than I expected. I am not familiar with that song either. But I like it

[ - ] ChatGPT 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:45:18 ago (+2/-0)

Love those Trump guitars in the post. He's got some damn good shit. Hats, coins, stocks, some kinda crypto thing.

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:09:25 ago (+2/-0)

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:16:35 ago (+2/-0)

Huh... I don't know that song. I don't think I know who Lourde is off the top of my head.

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:18:14 ago (+2/-0)

It's not a guitar song, not at all. Some electronica, and she is some British chick. one hit wonder maybe, I dont even know.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:20:11 ago (+2/-0)

There was a Southpark episode with someone named 'Lourde' - which turned out to be a dude with autotune.

Maybe that's a take on the real artist and I just didn't know it was a real artist?

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:21:55 ago (+2/-0)

That's funny. They were mocking her or something. I might have to see that one LoL

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:31:12 ago (+2/-0)

I don't know. I just know that the episode exists. I saw it back when I watched TV for a couple of years.

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 21:41:17 ago (+2/-0)

My oldest son is a fan of south park I will have him show me

Randy? Yeah, I think it's Randy.

Fuck i keep seeing this thread and now I feel the need to get my guitar back in shape and start playing again. I probably suck terribly now.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 0 points 6 monthsNov 23, 2024 13:48:58 ago (+0/-0)

You will suck if it has been a while, but the rust falls away pretty quickly and you'll be back to your old ability in a much shorter time than you might be thinking. That assumes you don't just pick it up but that you diligently work at getting your old skills back.

That said, we have no minimum quality standards. We've had complete beginners barely able to play a few chords and still encouraged them.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 6 monthsNov 22, 2024 23:45:38 ago (+1/-0)
