Buy some mushroom spore plugs and pound them into holes you drill in that stump. Should produce for years if it's not some anti-mushroom type tree variety.

I'm with you Paul. Was out in the woods with the wife last weekend in a new area (to us) picking 'schrooms. We've done this many times elsewhere and always ate them. She's such a good cook, it's unbelievable how great they taste (both Chantrelles and Morells mostly). But we were in a new area, they looked like chantrelles ...almost........but we had doubts. No mushrooms were eaten.

If you're "just thinking" something might be a mushroom, don't eat it. There are a few wild mushrooms that are unmistakable and easy to identify, morels and chanterelles in particular.
But your mushrooms on the stump would be known and cultivated, not random. You can do the same with a fallen tree before other fungus colonize and consume it.
I know what you mean. Yardwork is my full-time occupation but it gives me something to do.I get sick of cutting up tree branches so as to separate the leaves, which we recycle, and the sticks, which go into the green waste bin. Problem then is we wind up with a massive compost heap:

I am using an old tree trunk to try and grow a pumpkin:

Probably not too toxic when they're old and dry, but don't let too many accumulate in your gardening area if they're green and fresh.
Looks like you'll have pumpkins in February.

That’s all I fucking did when we bought this property. Next year, I’m paying for lawn care. No time for that stuff anymore.
