Honestly I think this is probably what early christianity looked like. This group began to claim Schneerson was the messiah when he was alive. Then he died but that did not dissuade the believers . They became even more intractable and refused to believe he died. They have parties for him where they claim he is present.

Moshiach and messiah are the same word. Some of the Lubavitch chassidics believe Rebbe Shneerson was the messiah (annointed one) and that he never died ( he died in the nineties) .
