Springfield Iowa gets down to the teens.

There was no "western" cold weather clothing. Guessing long johns or sweats under their "dress-like" traditional attire.

Sure, assume this. But they will still be very unhappy.
I know this because Hawaiians are the same way. They move to the mainland in the summer, but freak out in the winter a return home to live in a shoebox rather than endure cold outside.
