New guitar I'm thinking of buying. It's the PRS McCarty 594 SE

Rhythm, sure. Lead, not so much. There are other people here that play much better than I do, but I still love to play. Have since I was a kid.

Yeah, I get that, but it's 300-400 bucks off right now and today is the last day of the sale. If I put in new pickups and some locking tuners, I figure it just might be an okay instrument to gig with if one comes up and not worry too much about it getting stolen. I don't know. Been wanting one for a while now. It's only money, I guess, lol

Ok just reading the post…I put in the locking tuners. Didn’t need to. But did anyway.

DONT FUCK WITH THE PICKUPS. They make the guitar. Look, you -could- upgrade, but then go buy a US made one.

Got mine from Sam ash, $600 after all said and done. Sam ash is no more…

That's awesome, man, thanks. Yeah, it sucks that Sam Ash not being a thing anymore. That music store was iconic.

I'll take your word for it concerning the pick-ups. I have a 2006 Strat that I put Texas Specials in it and it turned out amazing. Picked up a Roland Jazz Chorus-40 a few months ago and I'm curious at how the pick-ups are going to sound playing through it.

Sorry, haven’t logged in for a bit. IMO the pickups are reallly decent, no need to exchange. I had thought trying to get the ones from the USA model…but…was so pleasantly surprised at the sound—especially the bridge—I left them. It would have significantly increased the cost, and since it was a steal to begin with, I let it be. And am glad I did.

There’s plenty of YouTubes and reviews, so don’t take my word. Are they the American ones? No. But they’re really good.

But having said all that, you are a tinkerer. So if you don’t care for them after awhile, you always have the option. I didn’t want you to dismiss them out of hand without trying it for a bit. But the choice, ultimately, is yours; and what I think doesnt matter as much.

That's pretty good but I would be looking at the used market. Lots of babied or barely used PRS guitars out there.

You should compare what you could get for nearly the same price on an amazing used-well maintained guitar before you purchase.

Know all your options before you buy, and this will help pull the trigger.

Never picked up a PRS so I don't know, but it looks like they're trying to do it right. I'd expect it to be a really nice guitar and the discount seems to put the price where it should be.

I have a Warlock but not the Iceman.
