I kind of miss listening to an entire CD from a band. It was like going to a personal concert, you really got a feel for the band and it's style.

Even if people do listen to older pre-autotune nonplastic 90s/00s music, it is always just 2-3 of a group's most popular songs in a random playlist.

Once upon a time, music was a form of art. Individual songs were like individual paintings, and each album was like a galleried exhibition of multiple related works from the same artist. It's probably not a coincidence that the departure from physical media coincided with a sharp decline in the artistic quality of music.

Or a whole cassette album. You had to listen to every song unless you really hated the song and wanted to waste a minute fast forwarding to the next song.

I recently found a whole bunch of old tapes and am thinking about buying a tape player.

I had a huge tape collection that went south on me. I had all my stuff stored at my parents house when I was young and moving about. At some point things got moved out back to a covered patio and all of my tales suffered from winter humidity and the whole lot was toast. This was around 1991-2 when I discovered the great loss. I still have a photographic memory of the entire catalog and I have replaced them as needed with CDs over the years. Some albums I don’t need anymore, Los when I want to hear them I go to YouTube.

Our children do this. Presume it's because they grew up listening to music that way.

And there was always a song or two that really kicked ass and didn't get played.

Tesla The Great Radio Controversy comes to mind and any number of ACDC's albums that weren't normie approved.

Edit: oh and Presidents of the United States how only Lump and their other one gets played but my favorite- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wo2L--mZ4h8

Actually finding an artist's album where every track is worth listening too, is rare enough, even when it's a good band that you like. Depeche Mode's "Violator" album, "Moodfood" by Moodswings and "Rhythm of Youth" by Men Without Hats, are all good examples of albums where every track is great. Subjectively speaking, of course.

Violator still is amazing. Ladytron's 'Velocifero' is another 10/10 album.

I remember when dudes were burning creed CDs and passing them around like it was the greatest shit

Creed, Puddle of Mudd, PoD, 3 Doors Down, Nickelback and other assorted butt rock bands sprouting up left and right. Then there was that awful age of whiny pop punk. Dark times.

At least of lot of metal from that era still holds up.

I listened to Hum’s ‘You’d Prefer an Astronaut’ on cassette in my car incessantly and loved every song. I miss those days. Everyone on TV commercials was white and I was blissfully unaware of kikes, living in my own little world in the sticks.

For my own collection, it is the whole album, or nothing.

I still do that. Gotta figure out how to hook a CD player up into my newer truck with its 600 watt factory stereo system.

I still do that. Whole albums themselves are works of art, the individual tracks notwithstanding.

I miss the dynamic range of LPs. Also, reading the liner notes and looking at the cover.

Funny I've been listening to a lot of sixteen stone lately. I finally started working out again and little things we kill is my shit when I'm doing treadmill or heavy bags.

So listen to the whole record, genius.

[ - ] x0x7 0 points 8 monthsAug 23, 2024 20:51:01 ago (+0/-0)

Why would you miss it when you can just do it?

[ - ] rabidR04CH 0 points 8 monthsAug 23, 2024 20:31:22 ago (+0/-0)

You can still do that. Most people just prefer to hold onto the good songs and trash the rest.
