Just because you tell yourself something doesn't make it true. It's the second most popular search engine in the US. I dislike everything they've done to it, the site has far less value to me than it once did, but I don't operate on the sermons of an evangelist's pulpit. Youtube's FY23 revenue was 31.5 billion, up 8% over the previous year... They're fucking rolling in cash and they're perfectly unchallenged by any potential competitors. Rely less on hyperbole and more on a dispassionate view of what is and the world takes on a far different look... The scope of what lies ahead is stark in contrast with the ideological landscape of cheerleaders and zealots, but unless we tackle it like it actually is we're never going to get anywhere. That said, in principle, we agree... It's a shithole that exercises a negative influence on society... But is was cool.

I don't think you can separate passion from commitment. I look at it from the perspective of a dictator.
When I say "good riddance, we'd be better off", I mean "given an army I'd have everyone who ever worked at youtube, rounded up, and buried in a mass grave."
And I'd sleep like a baby because I know it is a right and proper thing to want.
They're a net negative drain on civilization. You simply can't solve problems without identifying the source of those problems first. And globalized tech and media conglomerates are one of the core problems the world faces.
Don't be distracted by whats cool, or the 'benefits' of technology. Just ask, is this working, or isn't it. Does this contribute to humanity, or is it something to be removed?
Thats about as dispassionate as it gets. And I am passionately dispassionate about their continued right to exist.
