If I have learned anything over the years, and this goes for pretty much everything you can do and talk about it with others, it's that everyone is gonna tell ya what-for about everything."Oooooh, that pickup is never gonna let you get a jazz tone."

And then you just go do whatever the fuck you were going to do, and it sounds nice, and it's fine.

Before you know it, everyone is using a P90, and now they're telling everyone you can't use Seymour Duncans anymore, not for a true jazz tone. I mean, I'm exaggerating, but you get it.

This is true about almost everything we do, but music snobs are the worst.

I actually make it a point to get something cheap and make it wonderful. To me that is more valuable than buying an expensive guitar that performs no better than the one i got for $200 and added a little elbow grease. I actually have a small yt channel that i do some simple mods and shit on. It jeeps me sane and i feel like i get to share my passion with someone as I don’t have anyone to jam with here. Don’t get me wrong, I have “nice” guitars too, but I dont like them the same. I also buy old cars and trucks to fix and drive so it’s just a part of my soul.

Try audiophiles, they are basically always libtards ime.

How many guitar players does it take to change a lightbulb?
Only 1- but there will be roughly 6,000,000 others claiming they do it better….

Tone disputes always get me. People just need to hear someone sufficiently recognizable in the guitar community say that a particular tone sounds great, and then it's "Bible". But before that, it's anyone's guess. I've heard the same person describe two tones as (paraphrasing) shit and gold, and they're pretty much indistinguishable. I've never understood the way the guitar world talks about tone like there are objective facts of the matter.

Yeah i hear you there. My only time i care about “tone” is if it actually doing something that I dont like. Like a screech or is swipey sounding, usually like too high string tension and too much gain, but if it aint making any strange artifacts in my sound and it is close enough, i love it. I get some of my favorite sounds for metal out of a peavey valveking, which people shit on, but it fucking sounds nice to me. It does the thing I want it to. I paid $160 for it and threw in some fresh tubes because of some popping i was getting. To me, it’s a great amp.

Bingo. It's totally subjective. And there's so much more that goes into 'good tone' than the properties of the sound or the amplifier or modeler. It is also about what's being played and who is playing it. Also context. So, in the end, it has a lot to do with expectations. There are a lot of tones that I might enjoy if my expectations are one way, where I'd dislike that tone in different contexts.

Don't even get me started on 'tonewoods' with electric guitars.

i just bought my third about 6 months back. i dont know why, i still suck balls, but i had seen it and a bunch of its mates a couple of months earlier.

cashies had picked up a load of ibanez gios and the only one still sitting there months later was the lefty i figured it must have been waiting for me.

first is a deville strat i picked up f'in 27 years ago and i still have, second was an epiphone ej220 lefty acoustic/electric. fucking thing was too big and had a hideous moustache on it. i managed to sell a couple of years later for more than i paid for it.

not jazz but when you cant play to begin with its kind of irrelevant :P

I have owned probably 200 guitars. Non-electrics suck ass, pickups add spice to life.

Try tapewound strings for a real jazzy feel and sound, they are amazing.

I keep a set of flats on one of my basses, you’re correct. Good call. 👍

Looks gorgeous!

Sweet guitar bud, enjoy her. I hate playing on an acoustic.

[ - ] recon_johnny 1 point 10 monthsAug 11, 2024 13:17:09 ago (+1/-0)

As long as you are happy with how it plays and the sounds it makes, it doesn’t matter how much it costs, nor what people think.

Good on you.

It's a funny thing, guitars. I have a bass, a nice electric, an acoustic, a 1/2 size acoustic, and a ukulele (I don't know, I was drunk and it was $25).

And I don't know how to play any of 'em.

I was just looking at this little hollow body eastman, opening up and this is on first page. I’m taking it as a sign. I mostly flatpick but wanted to change things up.

[ - ] Smedleys_Butler 1 point 10 monthsAug 11, 2024 15:22:13 ago (+1/-0)

Just call it a hollow body

[ - ] kammmmak 0 points 10 monthsAug 11, 2024 16:18:11 ago (+0/-0)

You aren't a real acoustic guy. Acoustics are another planet. You went on another planet more to your liking.

[ - ] xmasskull 0 points 10 monthsAug 12, 2024 01:09:33 ago (+0/-0)

What sort/brand amplifier are you using?
