5 Men’s Colognes to Consider

submitted by TheBigGuyFromQueens to Fragrances 10 monthsAug 7, 2024 23:03:25 ago (+5/-0)     (Fragrances)

Nautica Voyage. This is an inexpensive, easy summertime go to. The price (along with most people liking it) makes this purchase a no-brainer. For an upgrade, pay another $20 and get yourself a bottle of Missoni Wave, which lasts just a little longer and also has a niche, creamy scent in addition to the summer fresh vibe.

Rasasi Hawas. To get a little break from the countless aquatic/beach/gym fragrances of summer that have 90% of the same DNA, go for Hawas, which is a pretty interesting scent. It smells kind of like Pez or Smarties candies with just a hint of musk underneath to make it a bit more mature.

Tom Ford Grey Vetiver. Another summertime alternative to the typical oceanic, fresh scents like Nautica Voyage are vetiver scents, which for some are more of an acquired taste. The best and most respected of them is Grey Vetiver, which is admittedly pricy. However, you can get something similar with a hint of tropical in it that has enormous staying power with Blu Atlas Atlantis, which has a cool bottle and is a bit cheaper.

Viktor and Rolf Spicebomb Extreme. You can go with flankers like the original Spicebomb or Infrared, but I like the longevity and power of the Extreme. This is strictly a winter/fall scent of Pepper, Cinnamon and other warm spices. An upgrade for this that smells a bit more refined (a lot more expensive, as well) is Tom Ford’s Noir Extreme.

Bleu De Chanel: The ultimate office fragrance. Not the most original or daring scent, but this is a classy one that has mass appeal and will likely not be offensive to anyone. Something in a similar vein that is half the price and somewhat more masculine/musky is Afnan Turathi Blue. Turathi Blue also has great longevity.

I guess sawdust, grease, and copious amounts of sweat aren't in fashion anymore.

Tom Ford White Suede is good. Nice floral scent.

What do you think about Creed Aventus? I get crazy amounts of compliments with that one.

[ - ] TheBigGuyFromQueens [op] 0 points 10 monthsAug 8, 2024 02:07:51 ago (+0/-0)

Creed Aventus, at I believe $540 a bottle, is a little too pricy for me. I have two bottles of its highly touted clone Club De Nuit Intense Man which I quite enjoy. The thing about Creed Aventus and its clones is that it has a smoky dry down that a lot of women don't enjoy. If you're wearing it for yourself, it's great, though. I wear Lapidus Pour Homme around the house which smells so outdated to most people that when I wear it out on the street I'm sure everyone thinks I'm a fucking lunatic. It is kind of one of those things where people like By the Fireplace by Maison Margiela, but it is too smoky and kind of better to enjoy by yourself. Overall, no one will ever say you smell cheap or shitty in Aventus, though.

Which one pairs best with a knock off rolex?

[ - ] TheBigGuyFromQueens [op] 1 point 10 monthsAug 8, 2024 00:48:21 ago (+1/-0)

I wouldn't know because all 4 of my Rolexes were bought brand new from an Authorized Dealer with box, papers and receipts.

I Screenshotted this and will look for them on my next visit to the mall.

I have a strong intuition that these are going to be those strong spicy old man type of smells. I’m more of a fresh almost citrus type of cologne faggot myself. Always loved the Dulce Gabana Pour Toilet.

If you like a citrus scent, you will love Acqua Viva. This is one of those scents that become personal, unique to you. If it smells like lemon cleanser, then it's a person's chemistry leading it that way. The formulation with the silver top was a thing of wonder, but the reformulation is still very nice. Buy a decant off of ebay or search for it on basenotes.

D&G is shit because it has no longevity. After a half hour it's gone.

The ultimate in Citrus is Terre D'Hermes Eau Givree, which smells like an orange blast--almost like Lemon Pledge it has so much citrus. That is why I opt for Terre D'Hermes Pure Parfum which has almost as much Orange and also has an earthy smell (Hence "Terre") to it. If you're an outdoors type who likes gardening, you'll love the Pure Parfum. It smells like oranges sitting on moist topsoil.

I favor Ichnusa if we are straying from citrus into green pastures of Spring scents. Numero Uno warm weather frag is Aventus, the king of smells.

I've gotten sensitive to most scents. Most kill my face and some make me feel ill, queasy. Everytime a house reformulates something so fine into a nose runner, I have to go on the hunt. I'm wanting to try more extraits than I already have from houses that make small batches and only sell by ounces. Like April Aromatics https://www.luckyscent.com/brand/658/april-aromatics and Nasomotto, especially this one from the house. https://www.luckyscent.com/product/41012/baraonda-by-nasomatto

[ - ] olinneserpona 1 point 10 monthsAug 9, 2024 08:58:45 ago (+1/-0)

Aventus is just too expensive for me these days, but it is still great and since Philosykos is too much fig for me I guess Ichnusa would also be too much.

Black Afgano is strong af(and good), it's the only Nasomotto I've tried though.

Have you looked into attars? Never bothered to veer into that world myself.

Acqua Di Parma Colonia is a banger. I have that. Classic.

I also have Chanel Egoiste Platinum and it is not citrus-y at all.

Green Irish Tweed I have smelled a sample of and it is not Citrus-y.

EP just have some oils from the citrus-category in it, not too much though, but in GIT I can really pick up the lemon verbena since it's one my most worn fragrances.

[ - ] FreeinTX 1 point 10 monthsAug 7, 2024 23:06:19 ago (+1/-0)

I use Davidoff Cool Water, obsession, and Davidoff Good Life.

Not all at once, though. That would be ridiculous.

[ - ] TheBigGuyFromQueens [op] 0 points 10 monthsAug 7, 2024 23:52:31 ago (+0/-0)

I have Obsession. Good for winter. Cool Water is great for Spring/Summer. I have Cool Water Intense which is a little bit of an update to the 90’s classic.

I've picked up more chicks filthy from work then I have all dressed up.

[ - ] TheBigGuyFromQueens [op] 0 points 10 monthsAug 8, 2024 16:09:07 ago (+0/-0)

That makes perfect sense since you work at a hatchery.

[ - ] bosunmoon 0 points 10 monthsAug 8, 2024 16:22:43 ago (+0/-0)

Hey pump the brakes there bucko. I didn't say I haven't picked up chicks while all dressed up, and I get all the eggs I want.

If you aren't wearing Hugo boss why are you purchasing pre-made scents?

MAKE YOUR OWN.
