If a threat gets close enough to you while holding a shotgun, then you need to work on your firearm proficiency ASAP.

I think ~20 feet is the distance Law Enforcement uses to justify lethal force.

Another option is one of those novelty bats you buy at the ballgame. Got to get in close but mace to the face and smash smash smash with the little bat and that nigger is shut down for a few seconds so you can make your escape.

Those little bats could be more dangerous than full-sized ones. I don't like baseball bats as a weapon, because they require two hands for effective use, and they need a lot of space. In a hallway, all you can do is thrust with the handle of it, you can't get a good swing without catching it on a wall or doorframe. Also, if someone is brave enough to close the gap with you and grab ahold of you by the shirt or neck... a full sized bat can't be swung from there. Both of your hands are tied up, and the attacker has one free hand to punch you with. The bat can also be used as a lever, which is a double-edged sword, since either one of the combatants can use it to force the other person to the ground or into a wall or something.

But a little club with some good weight to it? Someone could wrap both of their hands around your neck, and you could smash their knee or face with a one-handed swing. Leaves your other hand free to protect yourself or throw punches or grapple.

Haha, I thought the same thing about the sock- a dedicated male attacker can easily overcome a woman with a baseball bat. If they just get close and grab her, the bat becomes useless, it requires some distance to really hurt someone. Unless she can shove the attacker into perfect swinging distance, she'll just get grabbed by the hair and punched in the face.

Women should be armed in clown world. I want them to be safe. Some people would call me terrible things for having this opinion, what a fucked up society we live in.

I fought with a bat once. I had it sideways as a block and when he tried to grab it from the middle I was able to kick.

It gave enough time to run back into the house. That was the day I learned to never underestimate the strength of even the scrawniest guys.

It might be better than being unarmed, it is definitely an effective tool to ward someone off, using it as a big ol' lever. But it is hard to end a fight like that, and the longer you are in a fight, the more likely you will get hurt.
