"Several studies have investigated the association between the DNST3 gene and mental health disorders in Ashkenazi Jews. One study published in Nature Communications found that the gene raises Ashkenazi Jews’ chances of experiencing schizophrenia and related disorders by approximately 40%, and by 15% in the general population.

Another study published in Haaretz found that Israeli and American scientists discovered a gene among Ashkenazi Jews that increases their chances of developing schizophrenia, as well as schizoaffective disorder and manic depression.

A genome-wide association study (GWAS) published in PMC implicated the NDST3 gene in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and found that the gene is associated with an increased risk of developing these disorders in Ashkenazi Jews."
