I needed a fairly quiet little practice amp, so around Christmas time I got Fender's LT 25. It's a little modeling amp, and for my purposes, you can dial in an acceptable sound really quickly, just going off the presets. Would recommend to anybody who wants a cheap, bedroom practice amp. My Marshall amp/cab have depression at the moment as they have been in a closet for months, but these days, I mostly just dink around when I get a little free time.
I’ve noticed the new trend of guitar players -while playing live, are running their upper end boards, such as a Head Rush, with a split output into a small dedicated monitor amp to mic the speaker along with a connection straight to the board. The sound guys mixing the signals. The modeling on some of these units is insane with the Clarity and definition.

I am not playing anything live any more (maybe someday), but for a long time I was running my guitar straight into the audio in/out, through a modeler and out to some 10 inch monitors. Especially with good impulse responses loaded (a lot of these newer multi-fx boards have IR loaders), the sound is really impressive. And the only preamp is in the audio interface.
Shit is wild these days. I still remember when the first modelers started being released years ago, when they were dogshit. Now, I can find preset and IR downloads to sound like particular players, even down to certain albums for that player, and just load them up. Thank God there are still gear geeks out there holding the line because I'm not one of them. If you sell me something that will produce a great sound without me needing to be an electronics expert, I'll throw my money at you.
I enjoyed that set up while it was still new to me. But having a little modeling amp is the most efficient thing for me. I just plug in and use a pair of good headphones.
I was strictly an Ampeg man for the bulk of my life. Moving the various big assed heavy cabinets and rather fragile SVT head…. I played a show that had a house MarkBass little combo rig. I’m thinking to myself, “oh boy, here we go..” Holy shit I immediately bought a MarkBass 2x10 combo amp and upgraded the head to a 700w MarkBass head that fit in the same space. Larger gigs I add a 1x15 cabinet to mic and boost the low end going into the subs. It weighs something like 35 lbs and has a sweeter tone. I don’t even use any effects anymore other than an overdrive and an occasional wah.
Now I’m noticing at the fests I work that about half of the bass players are using MarkBass now. With Mesa being a fairly close second…
