Got the boy set up with a tool box today.

submitted by MaryXmas to Fatherhood 1 yearJun 7, 2024 21:39:23 ago (+47/-1)     (Fatherhood)

I had a second hand tool box sitting around- old red metal style and we filled it up with some pliers, screwdrivers, a small rubber hammer, a few wall anchors, and other knick knacks. He was real happy.

2 days ago we assembled a hand turned shaving brush I bought for him off etsy - we mixed up the epoxy and installed a boar knot. Naturally, he won't be using the brush for a few years(he is only 3) but I try to pick up some life tools that he can have when he gets older. Already has most of a shaving kit, and some decent name brand tools, most of which are better than the second hand stuff I use. As he gets older I will get him a few skillets, and a solid firearm - I'd say like a 1911 or Beretta 92 but it will probably be a more modernized version of something like that.

I am doing the same thing for may daughter with gifting and I will get her a KitchenAid mixer and pans and such. My parents got me plastic junk that broke. My kids have plenty of that crap around so I try to buy gifts that will last a lifetime or close to it.

If you are reading this, go be a good dad this weekend.

I got my first bike when I was six. It had a banana seat and chrome fenders, you know the type. Prior to that I had a Big Wheel. No training wheels. Crashed into the big tree in the front yard on the first go. Dad put me right back on it and I became a BMX enthusiast for years after. I digress.

Along with that bike came a toolbox full of everything necessary to take that bike apart and that is just what I did. I rapidly became good at cleaning and greasing my bearings and changing tubes and such.

It’s a really good thing you’re doing here. Thanks for posting!

I've been a life-long biking fan since the first one I got. There's even a few polaroids of my 3yo self riding. Nobody ever taught me how to take care of any of it or given me any tools. I still managed to fix local kid's bikes as a youngster.

Currently refurbishing an old mountain bike into a grocery hauler.

My son turned 14 the other week and when he was a baby i used to ride my bike with one of those little kid trailers in the back with him in it. Last week we totally overhauled that old trailer and turned it into a fishing tackle hauler for him to go fishing at the lake when he wants. Good stuff. Full circle.

Very nice. I'm working on making one of those into a cargo trailer. Eventually I want to put solar on it to charge ebike batteries.

Well done.

You’re a good Dad.

I don’t give a fuck about that Judge telling you that you have to be 500 feet away from schools. Fuck that guy.

Lol. Thanks pal.

Your daughter needs a tool kit too. Home/auto repair should be taught in high school, these are basic skills that everyone needs all their life.

Taking the kids out in the hills to go swimming at the river where I swam growing up, and where a few of our pets rest in peace. Far beyond where the normies go... 4x4 required.

Keep up the good work!

It only took you a day after quitting your sick porn addiction to remember you have kids and you should be involved in their lives.

Who woulda thunk it, huh?

Porn is a hell of a sickness.
Remember folks, they want you sick, drugged out, isolated, and alone

Casting stones, I see.
Furthermore, I think it is very important to recognize your own faults and lead by example.

[ - ] Ragnar 0 points 1 yearJun 8, 2024 09:22:25 ago (+0/-0)

Not casting stones per se, but rather using your turnaround as an example. Hope you don’t relapse.
I have always been very anti porn. It is one of the great sicknesses in our current timeline. I’m also against weed.
I have other faults, but porn ain’t one of em.

[ - ] MaryXmas [op] 0 points 1 yearJun 8, 2024 10:19:25 ago (+0/-0)

Yes you are.
However, didn't bring up the alcohol, or the pharmaceuticals. But I haven't touched the alcohol in 10 years. I mean, if you are going to shame me and speak of my faults, really humble me pal. At least I don't cheat on my wife or smoke weed.

[ - ] Ragnar 0 points 1 yearJun 9, 2024 12:15:06 ago (+0/-0)

Neither do I fagguete. In fact you do cheat. Porn is cheating. Go seek council for it in the Orthodox Church. They’ll tell you in plain words porn is cheating on your wife.

The fact that you are getting so butthurt bt someone holding up a mirror to you shows how true I am. You were addicted to porn and neglected your kids. You quit your sickness and are seeing the sunlight for the first time. Acknowledge your sickness and repent.

I dont know at what age you're going to gift the girl a kitchenaid but there are better brands that wont burn out after heavy use.

also kitchenaid used dylan mulvaney (budlight) as a spokesperson. Because kitchen aid is gay but not so gay it can take a pounding or two. Seriously if you are looking for lifetime get her a mixer that will actually last her longer than 2-3 years. I know the attachments are appealing but if the machine goes down so does her grinder and pasta maker.

[ - ] BoozyB 3 points 1 yearJun 7, 2024 22:29:57 ago (+3/-0)

A KitchenAid mixer from back in the 70's had metal gears, not plastic. Ours hasn't missed a beat in 40-45 years.
Vintage is good.

[ - ] MaryXmas [op] 0 points 1 yearJun 7, 2024 22:34:36 ago (+0/-0)

Wearing is better I think? Yeah, I don't care about brand. Any recommendations on the best gifts for a woman?

[ - ] dingbat 3 points 1 yearJun 8, 2024 00:44:49 ago (+3/-0)

When I was little, I remember getting a mini weaving set that I used to make potholders. It was fun to play with the different colors. There also used to be rug kits where there was already a grid, but you poked/wove in the large pieces of fabric to make the rug. I was really young when I did that, like 7, and I was able to put the finished product in my room. One thing I really enjoyed was going to the fabric store with my mom. She knew how to sew and I loved looking at the patterns for different clothing. Just thinking of things a younger girl could enjoy. Stand mixers are an excellent gift and very useful. Another thing I got and have been enjoying is my pasta machine. It’s an old school one and I have to crank it but making pasta is a fun activity for the kids and it tastes so delicious compared to boxed pasta.

I really enjoy your stories and am touched by how much thought you put into being a dad. I had a crappy childhood and tried to rear my son with lots of thought and consideration. Please keep this wholesome content coming!

I hadn't thought about textiles but that is a great idea.
I am not a perfect dad but thanks for the encouragement.

Breville is also a real good company. Australian. Not sure what type of mixers they have.

Keep working on being a good dad. Your kid needs you.

You're doing parenting right.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 1 point 1 yearJun 7, 2024 23:40:00 ago (+1/-0)

and a solid firearm

My first firearm was a Daisy .22lr. The kind with the oversized barrel and heavy wooden furniture. I've spent tens of lawn-mowing dollars on ammo with that thing. The barrel is completely blown out, but I keep it for the memories.

My parents got me plastic junk that broke.

Other than clothes and food my parent bought me... Nothing much, other than that one rifle. Had to scavenge old electronics, tools, and manuals to fix up old radios to get a radio. Same with a TV and other such shit.

Got real good at fixing bikes. Even now I'm doin' work on one, though I know significantly more about the process now. And it takes a larger amount of time and money.

Being a good dad is mostly about being White and giving a shit about your own children. That's it, everything else follows naturally from that. Thank your ancestor's efforts at eradicating all other degeneracy.

I have a 30 cal air gun. That does the work on rabbits and coons. Best part is that the ammo is cheap. It has a 50lb pump so as soon as he can pump it, we will be off to the races. Also have an old compound I can take down to 50lbs when the day comes.

Already got that. I use a Baxter of California DE and I think I got him a razorock. I have a dovo straight razor and he can ask for one if he takes a liking to it.

I like that Rex. Nice. I don't like the maintenance with a straight razor but it is like anything, you get what you put in. I love a good 20 minutes alone shaving on a quiet morning but I rarely get that. Shavette razors are a happy medium but I can't do it when I am rushed - you get reminded real quick to pay attention. I think extended focus is something most can improve upon, including myself. I think of it like meditation.

[ - ] velocityraptor 0 points 1 yearJun 8, 2024 15:07:30 ago (+0/-0)

He's three years old. Try having a clearer focus on quality than quantity. Quality in the sense that your son will actually value these things for their usefulness and purpose at his age. Why are you amassing a pile of items that will take him several years to ever even understand? I'm not saying he shouldn't have quality tools, but you've got plenty of time to slow down and enjoying gifting him each one over the years when he can begin to fully appreciate the value instead of going on just running around on a ridiculous shopping spree. If this wasn't posted to fatherhood I'd think you were his mother. Maybe start with a nice pair of pliers and let him get used to that instead of buying a three year old a shaving kit you fool.

My brother and I would go be quiet in our room when we heard my stepdads truck get home from work.

Otherwise we were gonna get a beating.

10 years later I'm 200 lbs of muscle home from the military.

The family is pestering the hell out of me to go talk to my stepdad.

I told them If I see him I'm going to beat his ass. They shut up.

Heavenly Father, I pray for this soul. Shield them from the despair of hell and the lake of eternal fire. Bless them with Your love and guidance, as you have blessed me. Amen.

You speaking in tongues mate ? Are you trying to go against gods plan ?

I pray that god does not listen to any of your prayers, you're screwed.
