Took the boy over to goodwill.

submitted by MaryXmas to Fatherhood 1 yearJun 3, 2024 19:45:51 ago (+56/-0)     (Fatherhood)

We picked up a teal air-fryer, a DeWalt drill, a hair dryer and some Christmas lights shaped like cowboy hats. All less than 30 bucks.
I remember destroying that type of thing as a kid and getting in a lot of trouble for it. Rather than pulling that card, I got a bunch of crap he play with, then we can take apart together and see the guts, then hit it with a hammer and then use the left over wires to make some electrical circuits.
Not bad for a 3 year old.

Always pull old stereos from the trash. Screwdriver work, motors wires and cool parts.
8 yo and I motorized the Erector Set helicopter we built with cassette driver motors. 👍🏻

That's a great idea to channel that tendency into something conducive to learning and having fun while you're at it.
I'm going to pass that along to my brother.

Pedophiles like love240 always eager to drop in on a thread about raising children. Absolutely fucking disgusting.

You're a monster, dude. You're trying to cancel him, aren't you? Even with all you know you're still throwing people into the online meat grinder. I think love240 is a swell guy. I don't know what the hell happened to you people that made you like this. I think it was Marxism or the devil or something.

Sounds like the family tree roots run strong. While your father and elders might be a heavy influence on how you see the world, enjoy the fact for a little while longer that everything is brand new to your son.

My mother had a stronger presence in raising me and I wish my father was more present when I was a child. I can't change that, only try to improve it for my boy.

All men need to educate their boys to never wish to be like them, but rather, better versions of themselves; with their own flaws, but still better.

Agreed. Improving on what you said, every father makes the mistake of adding their own fears onto their children in a way that forces them to only repeat their mistakes. Wisdom should be handed to one's children not through coddling them, but allowing them to make their own mistakes and guiding them to reach the solution of their own will. It's a tedious process and can only be completed by a master, but it's also one that creates children so strong of character that their personality and character shine as though they are a light among this world.

Don't be better than your Dad, be YOUR own Dad.

All men will fail. Divine guidance will only come from God.
