When I was a kid, I found two duffle bags in the woods full of nudie mags. Different forests, years apart. I imagined they were handed down by some guy going off to college or off to the military.

I guess today’s equivalent would be putting your stash on a thumb drive, trying it to a balloon, and setting it free. Some 13 year old WILL find it.

It’s happened frequently enough that I’m surprised a legend hasn’t come up from the event. Like a Santa, or a Tooth Fairy type being. The porn is conjured with magical wishing powers. His elves make the duffle bags. Then he gets on his quad-runner and heads into the forest under the cover of darkness. That might make for an entertaining animated short film.

Women aren’t going to get it. They don’t hang in the woods. But I know a lot of fucking guys that found porn stashes in the forest throughout the 70’s and late 80’s. It’s real

Anybody remotely intelligent won't be sticking random usb sticks into their computers. You have to have a completely separate air-gapped machine for that shit.

Thumb drives come with instruction on how to read them. A driver. That driver is the entry point and it can hijack the hardware. No OS is safe.

No OS is safe at all by that standard, you probably shouldn't even use an OS. The risk is very low in this instance. If you use windows you can't sanely care about privacy at all and if you use linux/OpenBSD you don't need to worry about a random usb drive because linux desktop users are so few and far between that they aren't going to spend time developing a usb drive attack, it wouldn't be a good use of time. Malware targets software that people use, and only a few of us autists use linux as a desktop OS. Also, anyone with anything worth infecting would likely be cautious and not read random usb drives on their valuable machines, further reducing the likelihood that anyone would do this attack.
