In America, we stock in feet and our suppliers get us what we need. In Europe, every customer gets bent over after suppliers won't "improperly" stock hoses and cables at 30cm intervals. Why would anyone stock a hose in inches? 35' is only a 10% waste if you actually wanted 10m (Its very unlikely you wanted a whole meter length, is precisely the point! In your scenario you have to make believe the length you needed happened to measure in a duration of a whole meter, which it surely did not). At any rate, compare that 10% of waste to examples I gave of 1' or 4' (both of which are lengths I can purchase in America) - over 50% waste when converted to m. It's not just the waste in of itself. You don't want the slack for ends that are terminated and can't be trimmed down. Your exercise is futile. Imperial is always stocked more precisely than anything metric, which was my original point.

There are instances that metric is absolutely better, but you aught to admit the fact is that it's not the proper tool to use for lengths in proximity to our human body size. Nor is it "easy" to convert on the go, as you imagine. There is no scenario where you have a measuring tape in meters. So you measure in feet, and then you convert to m? That doesnt make any sense.
