Our Catholicism is a bit funny though in fairness, likely because we were never forcefully converted. There’s still a lot of pagan notions that have been kept alongside the Church faith. Not sure about the tree in Clonmel but we did have to divert a motorway before to avoid damaging a fairy tree. I’ve heard our conversion to Christianity described as “new paint on old wood” and think that’s probably an accurate account of beliefs here tbh.

The problem is we need some kind of unifying belief structure, otherwise we just slaughter each other. I’m not saying it has to be Christianity, but it does have to be something. The Romans understood this a long time ago and constantly adapted their religion to include newcomers to their empire.
