Sure maybe it's the principle of the matter, but you don't hold up the line kvetching to the know-nothing cashier. You go to the side and have a talk with the manager, allowing the business to continue and the dipshit cash jockey to continue pushing buttons.

I was pumping gas in the mid 80's. Back when the pumps didn't even have a digital display, it was a mechanical array of digits that rotated. The last digit was that of "cents" and was numbered in fractions of 1. Keep in mind, this is back in the day when you ran someones credit card, there was no running of someones credit card, lol. They handed you a card, you took it inside, placed it on ..basically a sliding contraption with the card over layered carbon paper, and when you slid the handle back and forth one time, the credit card number was imprinted on the 2nd layer, which was submitted to the credit card company for credit. SO anyway, one night this dude pulls in and asks me to fill his tank. I put the nozzle in the tank, walk back inside, wait to hear the "pump stopped" beep, and go back outside. The meter reads "$9.06 6/10" or some shit (yeah, gas was less than a buck a gallon back then). So I ring him up as "$9.07". He signs his slip, drives off. Less than 5 minutes later he pulls back in, parks his car and walks in the station and starts blabbering, clamoring, kvetching about the extra penny I charged him because the pump stopped rounded off to the cent! (actually yells, "YOU GUYS ARE MAKING MILLIONS!"). My boss finally comes out and says, "look pal. If you want, i'll personally get a mouthful of gasoline siphoning the fuel back out of your tank if you want a refund, but you're never allowed back here again" The guy huffs, leaves. My boss chews me out for not stopping the pump at the penny (wtf), then mutters "fucking jews" and walks off LOL
