First, what good is a religion if most people are so easily led astray? Literacy is quite poor and the modern bibles made to use contemporary language also present modern jews as Israelites to be honored. So most people would struggle to read an older version like the King James. Which also was editorialized, but the situation around those edits has long expired.

The real truth is that religion is a tool of control. It means whatever leaders want it to mean. Which is why many Christians support Israel and why divorce is legal after a millennia and a half of it not being so.
