Rapid evolution has been observed in none other than Darwin's famous finches, within five or six generations. Macroevolution or "hard" evolution is impossible without external interference of some sort. This is the changing of chromosome count. You don't get a human from a chimp. We don't have the same number of chromosomes. To shift chromosome count would mean a random successful mutation, which is capable of producing viable offspring, in the same period of time and geographic place, with enough male and female counterparts that also had the same successful mutation, to start a new population.
