The calendar has been kind enough to inform me that today is Friday. That means it's time for the Friday Night Guitar Thread! Come jam!

submitted by TheRealBuddha to Guitar 2 monthsMar 1, 2024 19:45:17 ago (+19/-1)     (Guitar)

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should upgo go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @Sleazy or myself)

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

Hello and welcome to another Friday Night Guitar Thread. I was feeling fine but now I'm feeling ill - sick to my stomach and a headache. Dunno what that's all about, but it won't kill me. It may mean that I leave early tonight.

Anyhow, I do have something new.

I only played the percussion bits. If you listen carefully, you'll hear something different. I'm only responsible for the percussion. I didn't even pick the song.

Five Finger Death Punch - Gone Away (The Usual Suspects)

Rock on, goats! Rock on!

hope you're feeling better tomorrow

I am much better, thanks.

I slept a whole lot. In fact, I was asleep before taking my sleep meds. I woke up after about an hour and took my sleep meds. I tossed on a video and don't remember anything from the video so I must have gone to sleep quickly.

I did have a weird dream. For some reason, I needed to defend myself along with someone else. So, I shot three people while the other person also shot at these three people.

As this was a dream, I somehow decided that I didn't think this would pass in court because I'd reloaded and kept shooting. Except, they were still trying to hurt me. I just didn't think I'd do well with a jury.

So, I shot myself in the head. The problem is, I was using .22 LR and it didn't kill me. So, I shot myself over and over again until the magazine was empty and hoped for the best.

I died choking on my own blood.

I woke up coughing and sputtering.

It was pretty intense. I don't normally dream and I don't normally remember dreams when I do have them. I do remember having them some nights, but those nights are rather rare.

It was pretty calming. I wasn't disappointed when I woke up. It was more surprise that I woke up.

That sounds like a hell of a crazy dream, damn. Being dead appeals to you more than being in prison, apparently.

Glad to hear you're feeling better and still part of this crazy world!

Fuck yeah, I'd prefer death over prison.

Well, depending on how long the sentence is going to be. If I'm facing life in prison and given the opportunity to avoid it, I'm going to avoid it.

Yeah if it was every weekend for a year like your lawyer had you probably would not want to kill yourself

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 2 monthsMar 2, 2024 18:55:44 ago (+1/-0)

Oh, if it was for every weekend for a year I'm fine with that.

In the dream, the outlook was bleak. After all, I had reloaded and kept shooting. Except, they were still fighting and I was only using .22LR as my round.

I'm not sure why they were trying to kill me. I don't recall. I remember making inside somewhere and it was somewhere that I had a pistol and a couple of magazines, as well as some loose rounds. It wasn't my house. It was more like some apartment. It wasn't home.

If it was home, I'd have been more prepared. There are various ways to defend yourself in my house if you know what to do. I'd rather not get into specifics in a public forum.

Also, I don't think they were armed with firearms. I do recall a couple of them having knives and I'm sure the rest were armed in some manner, maybe with makeshift weapons like a hammer or something like that.

If I were at your home and under attack I would try to use the envelope to my advantage

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 2 monthsMar 2, 2024 20:13:06 ago (+1/-0)

If you were at my home and it was under attack, let's just say that there's a pretty safe space you can get into. Doing that would be your safest option.

Depending on the situation, I'll either join you in that room shortly or I'll have eliminated the threat.

Once you're inside that room, you'll also be very well-armed. We're good for a sustained attack, giving time for my friends or the police to respond. If you determine that I'm not coming back, the missus knows how to engage the secondary internal lock - which would mean that not even I could get inside from the outside.

Well, not without a plasma cutter and a whole lot of time. Once that lock is triggered, the only way out of the space is for someone inside to open it. There are other features like backup power, a hard line to an external antenna, a toilet, food, a few cots, air filtration, etc...

You're welcome to help me defend the place, but it's probably best if I do that on my own. I don't want you shooting me by mistake - nor would I want the reverse to happen.

It's a big house. Unless they're a well-trained military force, I should be able to eliminate the threat. There are ways to move through the house that are confusing to an outsider. I seldom have unlocked firearms - but I always have a firearm that can be accessed very quickly.

If you know, you know. But, most people don't know. ;-)

Like, right now, I have a pistol within two feet of me. It's locked with a fingerprint reader. Loaded magazines are very close to it, also hidden - but not actually locked.

Nice. Seems like you're well prepared, and hopefully you never need to use any of it!

Hell yeah that sounded great. The Biff played all that awesome guitar the bitching solo's and all! Holy fucking shit man, she fucking rocks! WOOO HOOOO

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 2 monthsMar 2, 2024 17:26:19 ago (+1/-0)

LOL Did you notice the kettle drums?!?

Biff is getting pretty good. She's been at it for years now. She practices diligently and has a pretty good teacher. Well, I think they're pretty good.

not my recording, but spent the last week trying to get a hang of how to play Recuerdos de la Alhambra, its the hardest piece i've ever learned to play but if i just keep at it and really just practice the tremelo technique i should be able to play the first few bars in a month or so maybe.

I want to take my classical guitar to the next level and rather than playing things in my comfort zone iam going to go way outside and try redefine how i play guitar with one really hard piece.

That was nice. How are you making out on this so far if you don’t mind me asking? I am mostly a metal player, mostly old thrash and old death metal mostly, but I have been wanting to explore more with either classical or jazz. Leaning more towards jazz. Anyway, keep jamming bro! We guitarists are a dying breed, gotta keep that love alive. I need to stop fucking around and post something here. My problem is that I hate making recordings and doing all that goes into that. Video and audio editing is new to me and trying to learn how to use different daws and it’s just one more thing I need to spend time on learning to do correctly.

[ - ] drhitler 0 points 2 monthsMar 3, 2024 00:54:48 ago (+0/-0)*

I just keep trying to get the tremolo right before trying to memorize any of the piece, its so hard but its just muscle memory, if i make it my entire focus i might be able to start learning it in a month. I was always good at fingerpicking stuff but not so much single notes on a single string, thats more like metal.

I find whatever you learn first really imprints on your style, my first song i really sat down and learned was a full fingerpicking rendition of ode to joy

i need to stop using my pinky as anchor too and train my ring finger more for picking.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 2 monthsMar 2, 2024 09:09:23 ago (+1/-0)

I wanna hear you play

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 0 points 2 monthsMar 2, 2024 17:24:22 ago (+0/-0)

The big thing about classical guitar is the form. We use that form because it makes it easier for us. So, be sure to use the correct hand positions and all that. It really does make it easier.

I am unfamiliar with that specific piece, though it doesn't look too complicated. With practice, I'm sure you'll nail it. It's also okay to practice the easier parts before you're able to practice the more difficult parts.

Here is a song my buddy Chris and I did a while back that you may have never heard

Mean Girls Give Pleasure

Hello. One thing I like about living in this day and age is that you dont even need a musical instrument to make music. I was sitting here bored with my laptop and opened up fruity loops and after a little while this came out of it February

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 0 points 2 monthsMar 2, 2024 17:21:32 ago (+0/-0)

Nice!

I went to bed and slept. I slept pretty much all day today. I feel much better.
