Just a reminder that the real reason of policeman wants you to step far away when they're doing something and you're filming is so that you cannot actually record anything of value that might be used against them in court. They have no more reason to fear your safety then they do to fear their safety from any other person within a 30 mi radius of them. Just because you're closer does not mean you are more likely to harm them than anyone else.
What the police have been taught is by the cities and the policeman's legal counsel that if they can get people away from the scene who want to film it then that filming can be less likely to be used in court when the police abuse a citizens rights. And what you also May notice is that the same policeman who say you are a threat to them and ask you to move far away before you film will then come and stand right next to you and turn their back to you to block your filming so you cannot film what they're doing. If they were scared of you being a threat to them because you were close they would not then approach you and stand right in front of you to block your filming.
