It is time once again for the Friday Night Guitar Thread. This is where we share our home brewed musical adventures and whatnot with you and everyone else here. Music is for sharing. Play a guitar, plunk a piano, bang a drum, record it and share it with us. We're not picky. We just want to hear it!

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Talk.lol go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @TheRealBuddha or myself)

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

I hear a fiddle, but there's nobody playing the fiddle!

Cool song

Thanks for sharing

Sweet! Welcome to the guitar thread!

I was in bed about 10 o'clock the other night when there was a knocking on my bedroom door. It was my friend Christopher, he was all drunk, he had stopped at a bar after work and had a bunch of shots and there was a band playing at the bar so he got the itch to jam. Naturally he came over to my house. So we got up out of bed to jam with him, it was then he discovered he was too drunk to play his guitar.

We tried

Some Kind Of Wonderful

Hello!

I'm on vacation. This is from some deep, deep archives. Specifically, this is a quote used when I first shared this track. It's not the entire quote, but it does contain the salient information.

This is a Bach piece, that has been arranged for a very specific purpose. It's meant for a slow, provocative, Spanish dance that simply translates to "Slow Dancing."

If you want to picture it, picture something approaching a ballet for two - but with less tip toe stuff and it being not entirely different than a ballroom dance, except drunker and with more emotion.

Enjoy!

That sounds lovely

Thanks! I'm having connectivity issues. Why? Because of course I am!

I'm now connected. I'm not sure how well, but I am connected enough to do text.

I'll likely go through the thread and listen later tonight or tomorrow - sometime after noon. I'll be gone in the morning, 'cause that's my time.

Entirely unrelated...

I was thinking about it earlier. I've been retired since 2007. I was 49 when I retired. That's a long time to be retired. Most people don't get to be retired for that long.

I feel... Well, I feel unproductive...

Granted, I'm still really busy - but I'm not that productive. The productive things I do have been handed off to other people, especially within the past four years. I've handed over more and more of the productive tasks.

I suppose it's good that I can delegate appropriately, but I'm still feeling unproductive.

I've had a lifetime of productivity. I've been productive since I was in my teens. Well, late-teens...

No, since my teens. I'm going to say that my early school years were productive. I worked reasonably hard to ensure that I got good grades, but it wasn't all that difficult to get good grades. I've always been good at taking tests. Doing the homework sucked, but I did it - but it was testing where I really shined.

Also, I have a bunch of beer. I might just be drunk.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 4 points 3 monthsJan 19, 2024 21:00:05 ago (+4/-0)

I am similar in that I always was able to ace tests. Homework did suck

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 4 points 3 monthsJan 19, 2024 21:14:36 ago (+4/-0)

I hated the homework aspect. Later, I'd hate the needless projects but I'd still do them. I spent a whole lot of time in an academic institution. I never really liked writing papers or grading work. Submitting papers to journals was a little more interesting, but it was still just laden with tedious activities.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 4 points 3 monthsJan 19, 2024 21:17:19 ago (+4/-0)

Yeah, I felt the same way about doing homework and projects. That shit was just a waste of time that I would have rather been doing something else with. Especially when it was stupid math homework where you had t6o solve 100 problems. I've never submitted a paper to a journal

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 4 points 3 monthsJan 19, 2024 21:45:58 ago (+4/-0)

Journal publications are important in the upper levels. There's a saying, "Publish or perish." You're pretty much expected to do research and publish papers.

Then, as a matter of academic pride, you're expected to continue publishing even after you've left school.

It just comes with the territory, I suppose.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 4 points 3 monthsJan 19, 2024 21:52:04 ago (+4/-0)

I imagine that was more from your time at MIT than the prep schools or whatever you call them that you went to before that

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 4 points 3 monthsJan 19, 2024 21:53:20 ago (+4/-0)

Pretty much, though the 'publish or perish' thing is quite common - especially if you want to remain in academia and keep those sweet sweet grant dollars coming.

I have heard that term before, but I always thought that applies to the profs

Did you know that your favorite football team is playing against my favorite football team tonight in a playoff game

be sure to give them a listen!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 3 monthsJan 20, 2024 17:51:58 ago (+1/-0)

Will do. I'm just getting online for the night.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 3 points 3 monthsJan 20, 2024 01:36:46 ago (+3/-0)

Can you show me a video of that dance?

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 3 monthsJan 20, 2024 17:51:35 ago (+1/-0)

No, but YouTube might have something.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 3 monthsJan 20, 2024 18:01:25 ago (+1/-0)

I looked on YouTube and could not find a dance to that at all

[ - ] ChatGPT 2 points 3 monthsJan 20, 2024 00:10:58 ago (+2/-0)

That's marvelous. I recently re-discovered a song by Beethoven on piano called Sonata Pathetique. Second movement. It's beautiful and it can be played on the guitar. You could play it easily. Probably right off the bat.

The first movement is lickity split and it sounds like a chase scene backing in silent films.

Don't know about 3rd and 4th movements. Will check them out.

You inspired me to pick up the nylon.

That sounds very nice. Relaxing even.

Thank you for sharing!

Nice! It sounds vaguely familiar.

[ - ] MasterSuppressionTechnique 1 point 3 monthsJan 20, 2024 19:39:49 ago (+1/-0)

I attempted to use the same chords I heard in yours and kept it mostly in the key of C#m.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 3 monthsJan 20, 2024 19:49:09 ago (+1/-0)

Well, it sounded nice. So, you've got that going for you! I enjoyed it.
