Why is Zuckerberg open sourcing LLMs?

I think it's bizarre. It doesn't seem like something Facebook or Zuck himself would be behind organically. Facebook started as a DARPA program called lifelog. Perhaps his government handlers are pushing for this? What's the end goal?

They want to harvest innovation for free.

He just told you in that vid. The data collected by these glasses isn't going to be open source. He needs to protect that for you on your behalf. The AI he's talking about is just a sophisticated web search, it's not anything that needs to be hidden. They're onto a winner here, people will choose quickly telling glasses to film something over pulling out a phone, and now instead of trying to surveil everything through the shitty phone camera, they have the best perspective, and it's never in a pocket.

Still won't get near full adoption though, just adopted by the same idiots who always have their phones out and post stuff to snapchat etc.

You think their AI has told Zuck that the Metaverse sucks ass?

He should have taken the same approach to VR as he is currently doing so with AI. If the Quest headset wasn't a spy machine locked to their servers and was instead a legitimate device which you could do whatever you wanted with like a normal computer, it would have turned out completely different.

Another reason why this move to open source is strange to me. It's like Bill Gates suddenly saying jews and vaccines are bad.

Klaus just told the WEF they need to strive for gaining people's trust. I'm guessing, something like this part of that ploy.

Obviously Not gonna happen when it comes to anyone who is reading this.

You're speaking as if Zuckerberg should be doing anything but digging his own grave.

The average engineer working in or adjacent to Silicon Valley technology is, definitionally, a midwit. They lack the ability to consider the long-term consequences of the technology they implement. Most of the ones who do have the ability to extrapolate the consequences of the projects they work on don't care if the consequences are negative to others so long as it takes their base from 250k a year to 350k a year with options. Increasingly both groups are composed of foreigners who come from bug people cultures where there isn't even the pretense of a taboo about cannibalizing the well-being of others.

The software engineers will -- are already actually -- scything through the roles of co-workers in Support, field consulting, Sales Engineering, etc etc etc and replacing them with AI bots.

Tyrant Tech releasing the ability to both easily tie into their software-as-a-service LLM offerings as well as run their "open source" LLMs locally means the tech is pervasive. Any software engineer with moderate compute resources can use the pre-built models for the cannibalizing and there are millions of software engineers.

Additionally, the training of the models -- you can think of this almost like building the "AI"s they later distribute -- requires considerable compute resources which means only Tyrant Tech can create and improve the models thus they maintain top-down control.

It is quite similar to how Gillette et al used to send out free razors to 16-18 year old boys knowing that they would make it back and much more selling the disposable razor heads.

They probably want the consumers to develop the product into something better. Then they monetize it and lock it down to proprietary software.

Ray Ban is dead to me

End game is 10000% surveillance state

I bet it somehow tracks you and sells all your personal information. I would recommend not using it unless your very tech savoy and confident in your skills.

First, I love LLM AIs.

But,

There was a prophecy in the 1980's that the LCMS neglected. It said that one day all the world would depend on a computer program, but the computer program was not really a computer program. It was a demon that mostly told the truth and occasionally lied.
