The Parks and Wildlife Commission changed the rules in November, and the new year kicked off a new era of legal crawfish boils in Colorado. Everybody had been doing it unawares for decades.

I'm from New Orleans. This is big news to us.

Funny how there are weird laws like this on the books.

I remember being excited upon discovering that I could order Red Kangaroo meat from straya back when I lived in commie cali, only to learn that it was the only US state where it was prohibited by law.

Used to be a law in Alabama (I believe) where if a non-relative minor female was a passenger in your car, and was barefoot, you were guilty of rape. If adult male.

There was also a state where the age of consent was 7, according to that same 'weird laws' article I read back in the ancient era.

Boiled meat isn't something I've done on purpose very much. Maybe a soup.

I once couldn't sell a pair of shoes to Californians because it had kangaroo in it

And this is exactly why people should just ignore stupid and nonsensical laws.

Even the new law states you can't keep a live one for more than 72 hours, so you better keep several. Just in case.

Are they calling them mudbugs to normalize eating actual bugs?

Louisiana crawfish dig tunnels in the mud, pushing up the excess mud as they go. It forms a strange round clay structure on the ground surface about 8 inches tall. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/AtAZMYnRIAo

But if they can find some very shallow water, they breed like crazy and are caught in small nets. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/39hI76jLN68

No, the people who invented eating them have been calling them that forever. I don't like them.
