Find the things in life that hit as hard as the drugs.
Recovered drunks and drug addicts are an intolerable bunch. Whelp, without the drugs, life is over. We are victims of an incurable disease.
Fuck that, now is your chance to take full accountability and own everything that has happened to you up until today. Now take the creative energy, passion, and drive you put into getting your fix and use it to build an amazing life for yourself. Because if the blame falls on abusive parents, an ex-wife, or the universe, well that sucks because you can’t control it then. But if you are in control of things, then that’s great news because it means you can fix it!
Any time I ever went all in on something, I got ahead. Use that addictive ability to focus and obsess and do something great with it.
Sober from the substance but not sober from the feelings. Racing back to you like being waterboarded. Gasping to breathe. You're still drowning in the bottle of your mind. Submitting to it to numb the pain. Ruminations. You're drunk again, just in a different way.
"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" - 1 Peter 5:8

Dry drunk syndrome is a term that AA developed. They used the term to refer to people who no longer drink alcohol but experience the same issues or behaviors as when they did. Many now consider dry drunk syndrome to be a stigmatizing term, as it can imply that a person is not putting in the effort necessary to recover.
Eh? Saying they can now be drunk without having to purchase and consume alcohol?
I know there's a "dry drowning", but "dry drunk" sounds sketchy and like a misleading name for something else.

I would guess bad decisions, lack of inhibition and emotional highs and lows.
True alcoholics will always be alcoholics. I think there are people out there, for a few reasons, that believe they are alcoholics but are just dumbasses that blame alcohol. An alcoholic has a mental and physical need that I'm told never goes away, they learn to manage it though. This I've seen first hand over a period of years(long boring story).
A "dry drunk" may remember that he can do a back flip off the back of the tailgate and may want to do it again because last time he didn't get hurt. He may also get into a fight remembering that the hits aren't so hard to take because they weren't last time. He may also believe that women are willing to talk to him when he doesn't buy them drinks or is part of that crowd.

Idk, just my two cents.

I hope someone's telling you that the racing thoughts and manic instability will even out as you stay sober.
