Technically it looks like the launcher exploded from the normal hot gasses out of the rocket. The grenade didn't.

Pretty sure it was a “dummy round” ie no warhead. Yeah rocket pressure buildup inside tube blew out a weld.

Video also contains an analysis of what caused the explosion, including slow-motion video. In summary, the RPG was a "reactivated" RPG, so it involved a weld that wasn't in the original manufacture. That's where it failed. They also used military ammo that stressed the weld more than a typical homebrew design.

If that weld hadn't failed, the pressure likely would have built up to the point where the resulting explosion turned his head in to paste.
