The Harvard graduate answers, "I come from a place where we do not end our sentences in prepositions."

"Well, excuse me.", replies the Texan. "What I meant to ask was, where are you from, jackass?"

You can end questions in a preposition. The idea that's wrong to end sentences in prepositions comes from Latin which has different word ordering for questions than English. So in English it's fine. In Latin it would be "From where are you?"

Different word ordering means expectation gone.
