i read an article on yahoo a few years ago about how israelis cheated the "sabbath" by hiring inmigrants to do the work for them.

I had to look it up. In has something to do with cleaning rituals where an already clean hand can't touch an unclean hand or you have to start all over. What that has to do with two handles I'm not sure. I guess touching the same handle would count as the same as touching. I ended up on a jewish stackoverflow and it seemed like no one there really understood why they do it. So if it seems confusing don't worry, even the nerdiest jews on the planet can't figure out why.
