Firstly, thank you for your suggested treatments.I tried some of them.

This didn't work:

Anusol cream
Proctosedyl cream
WitchHazel (noting it takes time, apparently)
Aloe Vera (bottled/natural)
Nivea cream
Olive oil
Hot baths

This did work:

I had a "lightbulb moment". I noticed the pain didn't occur when I went to bed i.e. lying down. Possibly something to do with gravity making the circulating blood in the irritated veins less heavy?

Anyway...the pain got so intense I went to bed. Lying naked the "lightbulb moment" got brighter and I raised my legs and flared the anal area - like a woman giving birth. The effect was dramatic. The pain started to ebb away quite quickly. I couldn't believe it.I stayed in this position for a couple of minutes holding onto my shins. Very undignified but pain has no shame. I got up and was pain-free for about 30 minutes. The pain came back and I went to bed again and the exercise worked reasonably well and I had a pain free night. Just had my morning dump and it was painful but so far the pain has not persisted. Applied some WitchHazel. So I might be on the mend. Horrible ailment.
