Amen, brother. Welcome aboard! I tell my kids, God doesn't promise paradise in this world, only the next. Difficult times are just ways for God to strengthen our faith and grow our treasure in heaven.
If religion helps you feel peace and live a better life then by all means pursue your happiness. I have seen too much to trust any religious person to be honest.
I have seen too much to trust any religious person to be honest.
I went through a phase like that. In the end people are people. Only God is good. God's light shines through people. Some people can idolize their own self-righteous identity and forget what it means to be a vessel for good in the world. Like the parable of the publican and the pharisee, religious identity can lead to 'moral balancing' and a "holier than thou" attitude. The publican was the more righteous man, despite never committing the outward expressions of piety. Substance is more important than form. The warning from the parable is that there will be those that value form over substance, and the letter of the law over spirit.
Trust whomever you will trust. I don't think anyone could ask you to betray your own conscience. Just be mindful of the fact that it may not be religiosity that you are wary of, but the aspect of a person that values the idol of their own identity over the substance of truly being a conduit for good in the world. Ego is dangerous.
The Levant approximates a geographical area that has historically been home to several well known Semitic states.
Semite is a term to describe the language group, of which Arabs, Jews, Akkadians, Phoenicians, Sumerians, Mesopotamia all belong to.
Ancient Egypt was White thousands of years ago, but the Middle Eastern sandbowl was not White. Islamic conquest in 622AD is just an event by Semitic people changing their idolisation of predominately arab polytheism and some judaism and christianity to the new flavour abrahamoid-grugism islam.
