American here, old cobber. Raised by parents who were children in the "free love" 60s, young adults in the "do whatever the fuck you want" 70s and divorcees in the "no-fault divorce" 80s.

My early years were spent in one of the most liberal areas in the country, near San Francisco, CA.

It's fair to say I didn't receive a traditional upbringing. However, an ever-pervading theme in my life, from my earliest years onward, was a sense of happiness when surrounded by family.

All that so I could tell you this: It is that very love of family that helped me find my own way, as an adult, toward the most traditional values of all. Namely, blood and soil.
