I wish it wasn’t raining so you could see the top down. It really is a work of art. However, the original roofline of these cars was very cool and is missing with this remodel. But, every piece of fit and finish is perfect because all the parts to make the top, including the A pillars, were taken from a factory convertible Impala. The result is a factory look. Nothing aftermarket looking about this build.
The car is otherwise in mostly original mechanical condition. It’s a 327 rather than the factory 283, but it’s stock, not a hot rod. The suspension is factory type as well. I think the next step would be to go resto-mod on it with all the trick shit. It is a cool cruiser though. Does very well at car shows.

327cid,wise decision;way more parts for that engine.

I wish you many,many trouble-free,happy motoring miles.

Stay safe!

Back when the car industry wasn't a globalist shit show.

Problem with El Caminos is that the seats cannot recline, they are not comfy to drive

I know it's nowhere even near as cool as this, but I just got one of the only stckshift 1980 Mercedes 300CDs. It's not in super great shape, but it runs and drives!

I’ve always wondered what the attraction to older Mercedes cars was all about. To me it seems like an expensive mechanical nightmare if something should go wrong. However, once in awhile I see someone driving one of these beasts and I just wonder if there is something they all know that I am missing.
Can you clue me in? I’m seriously curious.

They're an absolute DREAM to work on, if you're used to working on your own machines. Everything about the older ones was designed both to last and to be repaired someday when the lasting ended. They're like the opposite of pretty much everything made now. Also, they [some of them, anyway], ride like a nice old Cadillac AND handle well. Also, I love old diesels. I can run it on olive oil, if for some retarded reason that was a thing I had to do.

This particular diesel has a dead turbo. I mean DEAD - it won't turn; yet somehow the engine still runs seemingly fine [but it rather "tractor-ish"] It gets up to speed normalishly, which tells me that when I get around to fixing the turbo, it'll be pretty damned fun with the stickshift. I hope.

That said, parts can be kind of expensive sometimes, but you'd be surprised... LOTS of good parts are available for pretty cheap still, but I buy the slightly more expensive ones from FCPEuro because they have a lifetime warranty on everything, including things that just wear out normally! Hopefully they stay in business for long enough for me to take advantage of that, someday.

Ah, so you are one of those guys I was referring to! I knew there was something about these cars. I get it, although I don’t even change my own oil anymore. I used to everything car wise. I still have all the tools, enough to get me in trouble, but all I know how to work on is old shit with points and plug wires.

but all I know how to work on is old shit with points and plug wires.

Those electrodigicals scare me!

You are the bane of everyone on the freeway

[ - ] lord_nougat 1 point 6 monthsOct 23, 2023 01:21:26 ago (+1/-0)

Lol, I bet!

I have literally not attempted to drive it on a freeway yet. But I plan to, next time I have to go to the office. Those fags on the west side deserve to smell my diesel exhaust!

That's not a Rambler?

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey [op] 0 points 6 monthsOct 22, 2023 20:28:50 ago (+0/-0)

Rambler made a Marlin that looked like a dodge charger and the rebel that looked like a 67 chevelle, but no, this is a Chevy. Come on mang!🤣

Cat’s eye tail lights as iconic to the 60’s as LSD

One year only…, what a shame to those of us who will never own one.

Pretty sure Chevy never built a rag top el Camino…., certain they should have

This car hits my lust button on a few levels….., nice
