Turns out he wasn’t my dad. My life became hell when he found out. What did he expect? He married a young girl and then set off to sea. Moms not innocent here either. I’m the one who got punished.

Now, but not then, there was a little thing called Vietnam and Westpac deployments also involved a little stint off the coast for fun and games.

Edit my “not” dad was on the USS Buchanan DDG-14 they got their ass handed to them off the coast by Vietnamese shore batteries. I can still remember the day the captains wife called all the officers wives, and said the ship has been hit, men are dead, we don’t know who or how many. Mom just started screaming. My brother and I celebrated “dads dead!” I know that was fucked up. So was the whole goddamn war.

I’m not a Vietnam asshole. I’m not that old, and I’m tired of their shit. Those vets are milking it hard. I was shot at too. I’m not screaming or crying how hard it was. I just drink whiskey straight and talk about how much fun we had.

There is a part 2 to this story. I visited the Vietnam and those commie bastards treated my like the guest they thought I deserved. I won.
