Americans who are eligible to serve — who are physically fit enough, and who are mentally prepared to join the military — that pool has been shrinking over time. And now it's really only about 23% of people between 18 and 24 that meet our standards.

Depressed anxiety ridden and overly medicated gay fat fucks don't qualify for the woke military? Uhhhh ohhhhh time to get conveniently offended.

1979-2009. It hurts my heart every time I stop to think of what has been done to my nation and it's military.
I was blessed with the great good fortune of having served with some of the very finest people I will ever know, doing things that we were convinced at the time were important, critical to the continued safety and security of our country.

All of that is gone now. And it's never, ever coming back. I have become the "anti-recruiter".
In the past several years, based upon my experience, I have been asked by young men who are the sons of friends if they should join, and I have told them, "No.", and I have explained to them all the reasons why they shouldn't.

I never thought it would come to this, but here we are.

I flew too! On many occasions. And while my take-offs still exactly equal my landings, I had way more take-offs inside planes than I had landings inside planes, IYKWIMAITYD.

SFQC class 7-80. 18B W3, then 18F. Retired 18Z. Was in Berlin during the Cold War. 'Green Light' team in 10th Group during 80's. About half the guys were still multi-tour VN vets back then, and being 10th, we also had a large contingent of "Lodge Act" DP's too.

The funny thing was, the more I learned over the years about the people we would have been tasked with killing if/when, "the balloon went up", and the events and decisions that led us to where we were at the time, the less I had any desire to do so.

It's much easier to maintain enthusiasm when you're young and focused purely on the "how" of things.

But as you get older and your interest starts turning more towards the "why", you find the reasons behind them becoming more... problematic.

Particularly when the people giving the orders seem to be far more interested in killing large numbers of people who are not, have never been, and never will be any threat to the American people, while simultaneously completely ignoring those that most obviously are in need of a good airing out.

And that's where I am. Almost everything that me and my guys did over all that time has all been rendered meaningless, as if we might never have even done it at all.

Things and events that we had been forbidden to even acknowledge existed at that time now have their own wikipedia pages.

I find that I now take a great deal more interest, and gain more satisfaction in being a professional minder of my own business and being an effective emotional support hooman for my dogs.

I hear you. We were in the middle of a little drama north of JBad one night, and within 20 minutes the fucking press ON BOTH SIDES was already lying about what was going on even AS IT WAS FUCKING HAPPENING!

Shit, long ago when I enlisted basic training was just fat camp. Too easy if you weren’t a fat fuck. AIT was when the real PT standards were in effect. Then I got to my unit and everyone was on the weight control program and PT was a joke again. Now they’ve changed the PT test and don’t tape fat fucks the same either. The US is fucked for the next major engagement.

I was in the Navy during the Clinton years. I hated 95% of my time in it. Half of my boot camp division was non-white. Served with several women both in boot camp and on an aircraft carrier. The women in admin and as corpsmen were totally fine, any woman in a different area of work was practically useless. The exception being the female pilots and NFOs, they were actually pretty decent.

Didn't see any obvious faggots and there were certainly no trannies. This was still "don't ask, don't tell" era. Back then the "gay navy" was still just a meme. Now when the Navy itself celebrates groomer pride, you just can't defend it from the faggot jokes anymore.

I was in just a few years after the infamous Tailhook incident. The Navy was still shitting itself worrying about sexual harassment and crap like that. We had to attend a lecture on it. The guy giving the talk to us, basically said to just avoid the female sailors, don't even bother talking to them unless you needed to for work.

That was the late 90's. I can't imagine what it must be like in the age of pronouns, and 73 genders.

I wouldn't recommend anyone joining the military now unless your absolute dream job is to fly a fighter, and you'd be willing to serve Israel to do it. Or you're a broke ass nigger and want to use the military as a stepping stone to the airlines, and the thought of diversity hires running the repair shops and air traffic control doesn't make your asshole pucker.

If you just want to shoot brown people, well just practice at the range for now, and just wait a few years. if you're young now, you'll probably get the chance before you're too old, and you won't have to get shipped to the desert or Ukraine/Russia/China whatever.
