Assuming all modern technology were unavailable, what would you do or start doing to survive an extended heatwave? I havent given this one much thought as I had always prepared for Blizzards.
Same as surviving anything without electricity: have food and water. Also, we didn't have air conditioning when I was a child, and I survived many heat waves without it. Crazy, huh?
I do remember being super hot once, to the point of being unbearable, and I ran my feet under cold water in the shower tub. Instant relief.
On the plus side, desert tends to be dry heat, so cooling through evaporation works better. Summers tended to be hot and humid where I grew up, and the humidity was the absolute worst thing about the heat. You could just feel it, and it was literally called "oppressive" on the high end of the sale.
Lots of shade, plan your activity for early in the morning and late in the evening. Stay hydrated, sweating is your survival indicator. If you’re drinking because you’re thirsty it might be too late. Know the difference between heat exhaustion and sun stroke. If you have to go out in the sunlight keep as much of your skin as possible covered.
Expend as little energy as possible. Try to find shady shelter (uprooted tree, cave, etc). Build a lean-to during dawn/dusk.
Hopefully find crabapples or paw-paws to keep electrolytes up.
I've lived in mid Georgia for my entire life and I've dealt with plenty of gnarly heat. Water would be a problem because lord knows what's in creeks and ponds. I live south of Atlanta so the Chattahoochee is poison.

If you can prepare for it, burying copper piping 6-10 feet below the surface of the ground and circulating air from your home, through those pipes and back, that will act as an electricity-free AC. You can position the vents to circulate air through natural convection currents.

You don't even need copper. I knew a guy who trenched in about 300 ft of plastic drain tile with a screened and capped inlet and connected to his forced air duct work in the house. The air is cooled and the excess humidity drains through the holes in the drain tile. It worked well.

in the south of france they've figured it out since long. Everywhere in the cities/towns, with narrow streets (also good against the heat) there are rows of plane trees that provide a lot of shade. This makes the heat much easier to bear and they also have wooden shutters on the houses, especially against the heat. Furthermore, they do not go outside, the locals that is, during the great heat of the day. Simple, non-technological measures, just let common sense work.

The world has been surviving without AC and heaters for centuries, before we were lucky enough to enjoy them. Why did the nomad tribes Move so much? They moved to somewhere that was not 100 or below 32.
It's just not much of a concern, assuming you aren't unhealthy or old. Or have spent your whole life in Finland. I'd be much more worried about being in the Rockies than I am in Arizona.
You need a good basement apartment, preferably in some rocky place, it can be 12 or more degrees colder then outside... then you need a pyramid built on top, and you also need a gun, to shoot anyone on spot who would want to cook something in your kitchen.
One would have to adapt, and learn to live with it as people did for literally thousands of years until the age of electricity. The bottom line is, you'd sweat a lot, and you'd have to drink a lot of water, assuming it were available without electric generators upstream to power the water mains that would bring it to you.

Right? When the power went out for a week (tornado related) and anyone would complain about how hot it was wah I would tell them to hold their arms out and spin in a circle.

Even if it's just a 10 or 15 degree difference you will feel it.
