I didn't get a cell phone until the 80s. Before that we had to rely on alphanumeric pagers and answering services.

Was just telling my dad this. There was once a time where you just went over to people's houses and rang the bell. If they were a friend, they just let you in regardless of what they were doing, unless they were insanely busy.

Now even if it's "your best friend" if you don't call them first, set up an appointment and maybe it doesn't fall through, then YOU'RE A MASS MURDERER WHO'S just showing up at their house.

We had code words for talking to our friends parents for partying in highschool, we used 'playing tennis' for getting together to party, 'wimbeldon style' for hard liquor, and who would 'bring the rackets' for whos buying the alcohol... worked real well when needed

I used to dial 1 800 numbers that would anagram to other stuff, so EVERY single time we went out to a restaurant or whatever, I would dial 1 800 429 2888 and it was a carpet cleaning company, and I would tell them, hey you know your number is 1 800 gay butt? I did this for years... And my cousins all did too. Also I thought jerky boys was hilarious. Once sound boards came out I would prank call my friends. Then I figured out how to get my 56k modem to answer the phone, and I would have it answer telemarketers in the morning because my mom signed up for every fucking "win this car" crap at every mall, so our house phone was constantly ringing all day. So I would sit on ebaums world with my sister and the sound board fucking with the telemarketing scum. They never recognized Arnold's voice.
