And that's the fucking problem, right there. I guaran-goddamm-tee you that this is purely a leadership problem. Somebody's ass should be relieved. Probably a whole shitload of somebodies. Starting with the base commander. The fish rots from the head down.

One of the first lessons I ever got in leadership early on was the "Three Things With Which Thou Shalt Not Fuck":
1) A Soldiers pay.
2) A Soldiers chow.
3) A Soldiers mail.

If those three things were good to go, then all else was just normal bitching. But fuck with any of those three and it's leads to genuine morale problems.

I'm old enough to remember when "leadership" meant that officers didn't eat until the men had eaten first. NCO's pulled tail-end-charlie and each sheparded their squad through the chow line.

That no leader should partake of any good thing until the lowest private in his unit has it first.

Mark my words, this will end very badly.

the leadership lesson that stuck with me was,

you can be a nice guy or you can be an asshole

but you have to be consistent. no wishy washy back and forth

Authority absolutely MUST balance with duties and responsibilities. It MUST be acountable. Or you get what we've got now.

The art of leadership is to take a group of people and raise them up to the highest standard of performance of which they are capable, both individually and as a team, and then hold them there at that level for as long as possible.

The only real difference between ordinary and extraordinary is just that little bit "extra".

An NCO's job is about "brilliance in the fundamentals". Nothing fancy. Just training, standards and accountability. I wasn't either an 'asshole' or a 'nice guy'. I was just firm and fair. The regs are the regs and the standards are the standards. I don't make them, I just, by God, enforce them.

If you just consistently follow the regs and meet, or better, exceed the standards (and I will teach you how to do both) then surely goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life, and you shall dwell in the safe harbor of the Ol' Sarge's good will.

Do these things not and thou shalt be a shitbag and shall surely be cast into the outer darkness, where thou shalt wail, gnash thy teeth, rend thy clothing, and heap ashes upon thy head until thou dost repent of thy sins and return to the strait and narrow way.
"I don't write your quarterly counseling, Porkchop. You do."

Put me in charge at Ft. Hood for three months. And I would start by creating a scorched abrasion on the Earth's crust where whatever currently passes for "leadership" there once stood. First thing, day one, Monday morning, 0630hrs.

It's Fort Hood you traitors. Not you... The assholes who changed the name.

'Ft Cavazos'...huh, never heard of it

Oh, it USED to be called Ft HOOD...why was it renamed?

Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas, named after a Confederate general and long plagued by a series of suicides, homicides and fatal accidents, was renamed on Tuesday after the Army’s first Hispanic four-star general.

The base was redesignated Fort Cavazos in honor of Gen. Richard Edward Cavazos, a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars who was born in Texas to Mexican-American parents. In 1982, he became the first Hispanic to wear four stars on his uniform.

IT'S ALL SO FUCKIN TIRESOME.

Sounds about like normal really. As con77 said, the officers are getting fed plenty. They even get a stipend to spend "on their troops" as an incentive. Guess when any of their troops have ever seen an officer other than when in trouble?

Don't they have some cluster-food they could give the soldiers instead?

Good. Maybe they'll do something about it.
