Ukraine has been lowkey been using them since 2014. Just not supplied from the US until now. This does push the needle a bit further unfortunately. NATO keeps pushing it ever closer to the edge

Ukraine received a bunch of them from Turkey some time back. Plenty of videos shoeing them being used on civilian areas.

Its ok now unlike when Russia did it a year ago (probably not) its not a war crime if the US says its ok.

If this were real Russia would've already captured jewlinski and executed him on live tv.

Now that would be some good talmudvision. I'd pay per view that shit.

[ - ] Version6 1 point 9 monthsJul 21, 2023 09:06:13 ago (+1/-0)

It is real, rus has also started using them.

[ - ] Sector7 2 points 9 monthsJul 20, 2023 22:54:59 ago (+2/-0)

Russia has accepted the challenge.

Yet another war crime.

What war crime? There is no international law declaring their use a war crime. There is a treaty that some countries have signed to forego their use. The United States and Russia are not part of that treaty.

The concern with cluster bombs is that they release a lot of small bombs, and some percentage will not explode, and civilians can later encounter them and they might explode. But that is also true for landmines, and both sides have been using them heavily. Even a regular shell can be a dud and explode later.

Did you know that Russia has been using them all along?

[ - ] RepublicanNerd 1 point 9 monthsJul 21, 2023 03:22:21 ago (+1/-0)

Ukraine has been using them since Turkey supplied them some time back

[ - ] chrimony 1 point 9 monthsJul 21, 2023 03:41:16 ago (+3/-2)

I like how I'm being downvoted, but nobody can tell me why these are any worse than the landmines being spread around like chocolate sprinkles on a sundae by both sides. Or how Russia is innocent when they use and have the same weapons.

[ - ] fritz_maurentod 1 point 9 monthsJul 21, 2023 03:44:26 ago (+2/-1)

Russia is being very moderate in this conflict. Putin could glas or carpet bomb the whole place if he wanted.

[ - ] chrimony 1 point 9 monthsJul 21, 2023 03:46:29 ago (+2/-1)

Uh huh. Have you seen Bakhmut? Is bombing Ukraine's energy grid moderate? But since you chose to reply, how about you respond to the topic at hand? What's so special about cluster bombs versus land mines?

[ - ] fritz_maurentod 1 point 9 monthsJul 21, 2023 04:08:22 ago (+1/-0)

The Russian took some territories, planted mines and told the Ukrainians to stay away. If Ukrainians soldiers decide to go there, they blow themselves up.

Cluster bombs are dropped over your head while you are resting somewhere, some of them explode, others become little landmines dispersed at random places all over the area. That's the difference.

Oh, so they were good boys. I'm sure civilians will never encounter those mines, right?

Cluster bombs are dropped over your head while you are resting somewhere

Oh, you mean when invade another country and are AT FUCKING WAR, the opposing force might actually try and kill you? Again, have you seen Bakhmut? Do you think Russia took that by shooting roses at the Ukrainians until they left?

some of them explode, others become little landmines dispersed at random places all over the area. That's the difference.

So there's no difference. They both pose a hazard to civilians.

[ - ] fritz_maurentod 1 point 9 monthsJul 21, 2023 09:23:08 ago (+1/-0)

I explained the difference to you, but it seems you are a globohomo shill trolling around. I'm moving on to the next topic.

[ - ] chrimony 1 point 9 monthsJul 21, 2023 09:28:20 ago (+1/-0)

It was a difference without a distinction. You acted like Russia was merely being defensive, and ignoring that landmines still pose a hazard to civilians.

[ - ] mikenigger -1 points 9 monthsJul 21, 2023 08:12:49 ago (+0/-1)

kill yourself

[ - ] MayhemInChief 1 point 9 monthsJul 21, 2023 10:55:25 ago (+1/-0)

As far as landmines are concerned, each side is Suppose To have documents tracking where every landmine they placed is. That way they can remove them at the end of the war.

Problem is, this is war and documents are lost, incomplete, never accomplished, etc.

At least in theory though, placed landmines have a known location, cluster bombs don't. Also, landmines can be used defensively.

--------

You wanted to know why one could be considered worse? It's primarily the accountability aspect of the individual landmines.

[ - ] chrimony 0 points 9 monthsJul 21, 2023 13:05:08 ago (+0/-0)

They now shoot these landmines out into the air: https://www.hrw.org/news/2022/03/29/ukraine-russia-uses-banned-antipersonnel-landmines

"The 1997 international Mine Ban Treaty comprehensively bans the use, production, stockpiling, and transfer of antipersonnel mines. Russia is not among the 164 countries that have joined the treaty."

I believe Ukraine is doing the same thing. It's all bullshit. Short of chemical and biological weapons, both sides aren't giving two fucks about fighting a "clean" war, or landmines and cluster bombs being a hazard for civilians after the fact.

[ - ] RepublicanNerd 1 point 9 monthsJul 21, 2023 17:33:50 ago (+1/-0)

The Russian landmines they seed become inert after a set time, the bomblets stay active for decades.

[ - ] chrimony 0 points 9 monthsJul 21, 2023 18:38:54 ago (+0/-0)

The Russian landmines they seed become inert after a set time

Really? How long? What models have they used? Do you actually know anything, or are you just repeating a Russtard talking point? You can start by reading here:

https://www.hrw.org/news/2023/06/13/landmine-use-ukraine

"Russian forces are known to have used at least 13 types of antipersonnel mines since February 2022."

Both sides are using any and all weapons they have in stock. Russia isn't fighting some clean utopian war, and of course neither is Ukraine.

I think it's one of those dry cleaning places, because I keep hearing about laundry.

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 2 points 9 monthsJul 20, 2023 23:10:38 ago (+2/-0)

Hmm. Sounded like a virus, or an infection of some kind. Figures I couldn’t find it. I was searching for remedies and treatments rather than detergents and softeners.

Just another word for "soiled" diapers.

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 2 points 9 monthsJul 20, 2023 23:19:06 ago (+2/-0)

Like the kind where a baby shits its diapers and then sits in it for a few, making a shit patty in its diaper?
