"Since 2012"

"In May, a similar keylogger was discovered in the audio drivers pre-installed on several HP laptop models. At the time, the company said the keylogger code had been mistakenly added to the software."

Uh-huh. For certain values of "mistakenly".

Yea, it's a recurring excuse,..."we mistakingly added it to the software". How does one mistakingly add something if its not intentional. Complete bullshit as usual.

The same way that you "accidently" insert artificial gene sequences that activate cancers into the vaxx.

I can get having logging of raw device events from a keyboard driver, but logging keyboard events in a fucking sound driver, WTF?

...but logging keyboard events in a fucking sound driver, WTF?

Exactly. Never would have thought to look there, huh? "Accidently".

Anyone dumb enough or oblivious enough to buy HP products deserve what they get. They're one of the worst companies in the world.

Buy something cheap for basic browsing, otherwise build your own.

And preferably run Linux. Bonus points for no SystemD. Extra bonus points for running FreeBSD.

I'm actually going to try Linux.

Do it. There are lots of Live CD versions you can copy to a USB stick and easily multiboot with Ventoy, etc. You just copy the downloaded iso/image to the USB and reboot where you select which one to run.

A lot of them try to make phone-type simple bubbly GUIs. I've come to really like KDE (e.g. Kubuntu) for staying more functional and detailed like older desktop operating systems.

No one who actually learns it... ever goes back. You can even gamer on it.
