Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Talk.lol go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @Sleazy or myself)

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

Hello and welcome to another Friday Night Guitar Thread! As is often the case, we'll go ahead and get you started.

This week's track is a bit different. First, while Biff did the mixing, I played all the instruments. I'm grateful for her mixing, she did an excellent job - but she usually does. Man, that makes my recording life easier.

So, here's the track - but there's more to it, so listen carefully:

Ripped to Pieces (TB)

Listen to the guitar. There's something distinctly different. If you can figure it out on your first guess, I will be impressed.

~thows horns~

Rock on, Goats! Rock on!

NOTE: My ISP is retarded and I don't have the bandwidth to even stream MP3 files right now. Sorry, I'll catch up tomorrow.

The guitar has a flute or piccolo quality to the sound at the beginning. Maybe you are using a 7 string guitar is what you are hinting though.

Either way, it sounds fucking awesome. This kicks some fucking ass! Hell fucking yeah!!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 20:46:24 ago (+2/-0)

That's just some effects added in post.

You are so fucking close, however. So fucking close.

It's an 8 string.

[ - ] Sleazy 3 points 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 20:56:47 ago (+3/-0)

I thought that it sounded lower than a D tuned E string!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 3 points 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 21:03:19 ago (+3/-0)

You were pretty close.

It was an 8 string Ibanez. I'd been picking at the lead for a couple of hours after practice - when it was still wet outside. I decided to turn it into a song. There's a couple of guitar parts and a percussion part.

It's nothing fancy, but I think it sounds alright.

I couldn't think of a way to end it, so we just did the fade out thing. That also came out alright.

There's some fancy guitar work in there, but folks probably won't notice it. There's everything from tapping to a variety of hammer on and offs. I was aiming for something deep but still melodic. Again, I think it came out alright.

It's definitely not a masterpiece (at least by my standards), but it's good enough for an album's B-side.

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 21:09:19 ago (+2/-0)

It sounds totally fucking awesome to me.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 21:13:25 ago (+2/-0)

Sweet!

One of these days, I'll have to transcribe it to tab and share the tab for something I do, that way folks can try to play it.

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 21:16:07 ago (+2/-0)

That would be cool. I would try!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 21:23:00 ago (+2/-0)

I'd probably make it a fairly simple song, just so folks don't get frustrated.

I figure if I can play it, anyone can play it - so long as they put their hours in.

[ - ] Sleazy 3 points 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 21:29:35 ago (+3/-0)

LoL a beginners song?

Last night I took a close up photo of my eyeball and my pupil is hexagon. What the hell is that? It's supposed to be s circle

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 17, 2023 00:48:28 ago (+2/-0)

Great music and production! I'm stealing this for the solo in my project. LMAO. I do love these kind of songs, even if I can't play that fast. But the reason I commented further down is because I've been contemplating that rhythm sound a few years and think you all explained how it's done right there. I'm going to just stick with my Ibenez RG series and the sounds I get that way.

[ - ] Peleg 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 17, 2023 09:00:33 ago (+2/-0)

An eight string. Nice. You guys are pretty talented. I never could handle more than 4 strings, and only then 1 string at a time. LOL.
Thump thump Thump thump. You know what I mean.
But that was many many years ago.
Thank you folks. It's good to hear people making music.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 17, 2023 09:25:16 ago (+1/-0)

I normally do everything with just six strings, but sometimes I like to play around with other stuff, I don't play an 8 string very often, so it seemed like another reason to record it.

It was a fun experience. Glad ya liked it and stopped by.

[ - ] ChatGPT 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 23:29:25 ago (+2/-0)

That's kick ass. Ripping on that guitar.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 17, 2023 09:19:17 ago (+1/-0)

Thanks. I was done practicing and just noodling. I liked some of the tones so I decided to turn it into a more full piece.

[ - ] Sleazy 3 points 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 21:07:10 ago (+3/-0)

Here is a song I wrote and recorded that never been shared here. Precipice

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 3 points 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 21:14:36 ago (+3/-0)

I'd listen, but I kinda sorta got L-T to load partially and I'm hoping it'll save when I hit the schedule button.

Fuck, living in the middle of nowhere can suck at times.

Most of the time, it's worth it. Most of the time...

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 17, 2023 00:21:39 ago (+2/-0)

That took me by surprise! Pretty good sound and lyrics. I like music that dares to be different whether it's the sound, style, or in the song arrangements.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 17, 2023 00:52:52 ago (+1/-0)

Thanks a lot. I appreciate that! Rock and Roll!

Here is a song from the last time my friend Chris was here. It is from an artist you would never expect us to cover. Baby

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 3 points 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 20:09:15 ago (+3/-0)

Which artist?

I clicked the link... The page says that I can't find the site. That's how slow my internet is right now.

I'm hopeful that it'll pick up speed before the night is over.

[ - ] Sleazy 3 points 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 20:18:55 ago (+3/-0)

Justin Bieber LoL

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 3 points 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 20:46:40 ago (+3/-0)

Well, you're right. I would not have expected that.

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 17, 2023 00:29:12 ago (+2/-0)

Pretty good! I'm sure I like it better than the original already. LOL Sometimes you can dig up some decent songs that were done by other people and cover them in ways people like better.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 17, 2023 00:40:02 ago (+1/-0)

Thanks! Glad you liked it!

[ - ] ChatGPT 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 23:28:37 ago (+1/-0)

I always liked that song. Would have been a hit in any era.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 23:39:39 ago (+1/-0)

I had a job a few years back filming a ballet recital competition. It was an all day affair and I had to just sit there and make sure the camera was filming and did not move. Anyways, in the middle of the thing, they called out break for lunch and some young guy got up on stage with an acoustic guitar and played this song, when he started singing all the ballet girls went crazy. They rushed the stage and were screaming like it was elvis or the beatles. Then they sang along. It's cause of that I thought of telling Chris to play this song

I'm plagued by technical issues this week. I got through the practice I needed for this next song and the guitar shorted out again. I can fix that, hopefully better this time. I haven't played this song for a long time and actually learned some better ways of doing it.

@TheRealBuddha I did get a picture uploaded, but it took me a few tries. My 5.1 surround sound speakers are hidden or outside the scope of the picture. When I start problem solving the microphone issue, I'll see if I can replicate the original set-up I used on the first 2 songs I recorded, and go from there.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 22:55:44 ago (+1/-0)

what is wrong with your microphone?

[ - ] popticalillusion 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 23:10:54 ago (+1/-0)

I'm not really sure, other than it being cheap. LOL I did set-up the amplifiers differently and moved the microphone. But essentially it is picking up some kind of interference when I hung it off the amp's handle. Before, I had the amplifier on the ground and the microphone was was being held in front of the amp with a home-made device. Oh, and it's a USB Mic if that helps any.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 16, 2023 23:25:32 ago (+1/-0)

must be vibrations working their way down the cord to the mic

[ - ] popticalillusion 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 17, 2023 00:58:31 ago (+1/-0)

It could be. My home-made mic holder is made of soft foam material that would greatly reduce vibrations. I know I would much rather record with a microphone, than using the headphone output directly plugged into the computer. I had just got both amplifiers working and stacked them and was getting some really awesome sound out of them. It did the same thing off of either amplifier too.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 17, 2023 02:26:20 ago (+1/-0)

Ive got a little Marshall practice amp bolted on top of a first act practice amp with the marshall powering both the speakers

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 17, 2023 09:15:27 ago (+1/-0)

Ugh... Tech issues do suck. I too had tech issues. I'm not sure if they're completely resolved.

This was a pretty slow thread anyhow. Let's hope the shorting out doesn't end up breaking something that's more difficult to fix.

[ - ] popticalillusion 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 17, 2023 21:16:49 ago (+1/-0)

I probably just didn't get the wire soldered on the guitar jack good enough. The hands can get shaky at times and the coordination isn't what it should be. LOL Earlier plans to bring some more boxes of my junk into the hotel were canceled, so I think I'm going to open it up and see what happened. (I have to balance out my physical work load.) It's a good opportunity to check out all the technical issues I had and my ideas for solving them.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 17, 2023 21:24:27 ago (+1/-0)

I like to use 'helping hands' when soldering. They're also useful for tying flies for fly fishing.
