I was a tank gunner. If I could see it I could kill it. Unfortunately if I can see you, you can see me. If you can see me you can kill me. Tank warfare is brutal.
Paired with automatic ranging and quick turret traverse, those speedy little darts will fuck anything up. Doesn't matter how angled your armor is. At least back in WWII, given the proper tank, you could at least learn how to angle your armor or position in a way that survivability would go up. Tanks now are just "I saw you first, you're dead lol". Point and click adventure.
My tank had the dozer blade. I would dig our positions. Three per tank. Shoot and scoot that was our strategy. Loved every minute I spent in tanks. Dangerous and stupid. I fucking hated A-10s
Nice. Added benefit of "armor" with that blade, there's a non-zero chance it could maybe bounce or at least eat an RPG shot.

Pretty much what you have to do anymore. Thermal imaging, artillery computers, AGM's, movement is better than sitting still.
I fucking hated A-10s
On the bright side, their 30mm isn't entirely effective at tank cracking, unlike the Hs129 which I think the A-10 was trying to emulate, mixed with something like a Stuka.
Granted, the 129 had a 75mm cannon mounted on it, not 30mm.
Missiles are still a bitch though. Not a whole lot you can do against AGM's once they're after you. Pilots can at least try to notch AA missiles or get them to chase chaff and flares. Tanks are just kinda fucked, especially from top attack.
Hell, a sufficiently determined man can grab a molotov and fuck up an Abrams without infantry support. They're far from invincible, it's just getting close to the gas-guzzling fuckers.
Those damn hellfire missles. I learned never sleep on or near a tank. Yet, it was my home. I fixed it, I broke it, I maintained it. A tanker and his tank. You give it a name like lulubelle or rolling abortion. You know something sweet and endearing.
Fuckers kept dropping their ordinance on the flight line every mission. Of course they then had to call in the ordies to take care of it, who weren't anywhere near the damned things of course.
In the last couple days there have been a few small Ukrainian companies and platoons that have refused to move forward into the meat grinder. They might be sitting in jail or worse now
I think a lot of people miss a crucial detail. You see a tank. There are 4 crew members in that tank, they have trained to work together. They are a team. When it goes boom four men just died. Four men with families. Four men just died.
It’s a good tank. What was freaky was we had m48s that were repaired. You could see the hole that killed it. Tanks can be repaired and refurbished. It’s just a big chunk of steal. Everything inside it can be replaced including those fleshy meat bags called the crew.
That's what I read. It was just a reliable and "good enough" workhorse, much like the Sherman.

I could see that. It looks like the hull was just welded armor, so that's workwithable. Hell, you could in a pinch just weld a thick steel plate over where the hull penetration was.
Now the turret looks to be cast armor though... That seems like it'd be sketchy, because if it's penetrated in one spot the tolerances of the rest of the turret are now kinda fucked, and just welding a plate or filling that hole would be pretty screwballed.
That's the problem with cast armor. It's good, but if it's penned you may as well just get a new unit.
Then there's riveted armor. I don't think I even need to comment. You were a tanker, you'd know. 😂
Those poor Italians in the desert... All those rivets pinging around when a round just smacks the armor and doesn't pen. Who needs spalling? Just hit 'em with an HE and let their own box kill them. 😂
Most tankers don’t die from a penetrating round. They die from metal that flakes off and ricochets around the cabin. It sets off your ammo. It happens so fast you have no idea you just died. Heat rounds are the worst. The army spent a lot of money to teach us not to get shot. They loaded tanks up with sheep and shot them. Pulled the little lambs out of the hull to show us what happens. It’s not pretty. I got really good at hiding my tank.
Ah turns out missles work better than tanks. And missles should just be fired directly at the people starting the war, then it would be over immediately
They are literally PAYING the jews to do it. They can't then excuse themselves and claim they're not one of the financiers. Taxpayers get the rope along with their jew buddies.

The M48 looked like a weird mishmosh of a Sherman and a T-55. Definitely a tank of its time.

Nope.

That's a small part of it. Their biggest desire was the shale oil and gas fields as well as a clear land invasion path into Russia.
