Maybe someone killed my dog and is pretending to be let in. Maybe it's a coyote or less likely a skin walker.

She's a pound dog and whatever happened she doesn't bark very often so barking is not an option. im drawing a blank on this very reasonable idea.

Scratch at the door three times, then twice, then once, or maybe get a fuckin' dog door and just let the beast come and go.
Also get a better dog. It doesn't sound like it's much of a protector or security alarm. Pack animals learn from the other members of the pack. Let a good dog teach the bad dog how to be a good bad dog

My dog loves me and would never shit in her food bowl. I sit in my Adirondack chair and throw her ball. She brings it back. I throw it again. We repeat this cycle until she is exhausted. She’s a German Shepherd so it takes a very long time to exhaust her.

You've never heard the urban legend where the scared boy puts his hand under the bed ever time he is scared and the dog licks his hand, next morning he finds the dog dead under the bed, some weirdo had been licking his hand.

There's plenty of real life cases of people pretending to be pets to try and get in.
