Just want to put in perspective exactly how retarded this is. Ireland is a very wet country but with a temperate climate. Livestock can be reared here entirely on grass without any need even for irrigation (although feeds are imported to speed up the process or bulk out the beef prior to slaughter). We export over 90% of the beef produced here (similar figures for most meat reared here), and it is exported even to places like Saudi Arabia. Despite such huge quantities being exported, all emissions from the production of this meat is attributed to Ireland. Anyone with even a tenuous grasp of economics or an understanding of balances of trade concepts will immediately recognise this alone as dishonest accounting.

But consider our export markets. The Saudis have shitloads of oil money, so if they want beef they will get it. To rear beef in their own country would require huge de-sel plants, irrigation, imported feeds etc. Or they could just do what our European markets will do if Irish production reduces - ask the Brazilians to cut down ever more of their rain forest so they can raise more beef to export large distances in diesel fuelled ships.

They’re not even trying to make any of this even appear to make sense. These policies are entirely reliant on the establishment’s opinion that people are morons and will just accept whatever nonsense they are told by authority figures. And if the 2 years of COVID nonsense taught the establishment anything, it’s that people are morons who will just accept whatever nonsense they are told by authority figures.
