I must not be understanding this whole AI thing

submitted by RobertJHarsh to AI 1.9 yearsMay 28, 2023 21:50:46 ago (+3/-2)     (AI)

I am seeing either A) "AI" sites that generate porn or B) chatbots that seems to have some decent code to make quickly rendered results via AUTOMATION and REPEATIVE searches. AI should really stand for "automation infrastructure" or something like that. There is nothing "intelligent" about any of this.

The current form of AI is actually much closer to how our brains work than most people realize.

The AI chatbots do not work by searching. Some are given the ability to perform a search. But that's not part of the AI. That's the AI deciding to use a tool, to better solve the task it was given, just like you or I might.

AI isn't coded to do specific things. They are massive simulated neural networks. A digital equivalent of a brain. It starts out knowing nothing. It is trained by showing it many things, some labeled and some not, and giving it feedback on how well it interacts with them. Like you might teach a child. Based on the training and feedback, some neural connections are strengthened, and others are weakened. The result is a system of associations that responds more or less reasonably to any input it is given.

The only part that is coded is the framework around it, both for training and for using it. The "body", if you will, is coded. The brain learns and responds to inputs the same way ours does.

It's not a virtual brain.

It's a script.

People who use them are called kiddies.

Stop being awestruck by technology

The tools people use to work with it are scripts. The AI itself is not a script. The models don't contain a single line of code. You don't know the first thing about how it works.

As I said; the body is coded, the brain is not.

Continue to overcomplify something to make it appear as if it is something which it is clearly not.

Imagine you cut words into oddly shaped pieces that fit together to form sentences. Shake a box full of them and it assembles lines of words as they slide around into the other pieces as designed.

The assembly of words isn't some brain workings of intelligence within a device that resembles human thinking. Stop trying to force that delusion onto this simple mechanism.

Except that's not how it actually works. When we tokenize input, we do not give the tokens any kind of odd shapes. They do not fit together only in certain ways. There is no human design involved in how they fit together. They're simply assigned a unique ID number.

The AI model learns how those numbers best fit together, and when to use which ones when constructing a response, by forming associations and connections between them, based on training data, and encoded as weights in a neural network. This is exactly how our brains do it, too. Just electro-chemically, instead of digitally.

Even this is still an oversimplification, and doesn't account for its ability to track context, make complex inferences, wordsmith when needed, and the emergent displays of creativity when all of these things are combined. Not to mention that image generation models are a whole different beast.

Your error, aside from not fully understanding how it works, is assuming our brains are substantially more complex than this.

Chatbots aren't people

[ - ] GloryBeckons 0 points 1.9 yearsMay 29, 2023 05:48:32 ago (+0/-0)

I didn't say they are. But they are a form of intelligence. If they aren't, then neither are we.

It'll be interesting when bots can scam people. Run the same scams they do now automatically.

I've tried using ai for Art, and I had redraw its crap. It's not threatening my field yet

Why does this take always come from people who seem clueless about technology? Compared to chatbots available 10 years ago, it's pretty damn intelligent. It passes the turing test in my book and is smarter and writes better than a majority of people on this planet. And this is just the beginning. In 10 years it will be much better, unfortunately.

There is nothing "intelligent" about any of this.

It's artificially intelligent.

Can confirm. AI is pretty fucking gay.
@Love240 & @FacelessOne can't even make an Anne Frank joke. Not even a lame one.

Lol!

Faceless is a really excellent one, though!

To be fair, good humor needs an element of truth to be effective…

Hitler didn't gas any Jews. Anne Frank killed all 6 billion jews when she farted in the shower at the Ashwitz country club.
100% true, 100% funny, and Chat bots can't make suck a joke.
