Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Talk.lol go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @theRealBuddha or myself)

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

It's Memorial Day weekend. I have something for this...

CCR - Fortunate Son

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 20:17:18 ago (+3/-0)

Sweet! Sounds great

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 4 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 20:20:04 ago (+4/-0)

Thanks. For some reason, when I last looked, the thread isn't showing up in the guitar sub.

I suspect there's a lag somewhere.

Also, I'm pretty sure I'll take the Caddie, though it's gonna be interesting. It's an old manual - probably with wonky shifting. It has drum brakes and it's mostly downhill where I'll be headed. So, I might trailer it down after making sure I know how the drive it.

I've driven very few cars from that era.

But, I'll do almost anything for a parade.

[ - ] Hall_of_Cost 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 20:40:49 ago (+3/-0)

It's 404 for me

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 6 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:20:03 ago (+6/-0)

Fixed now.

We're right full of errors tonight!

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 20:43:25 ago (+3/-0)

Oh yeah, you have an underscore at the end of your link where a ) should be

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 5 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:21:14 ago (+5/-0)

Between the two of us, we're right full of mistakes tonight.

And, I'm pretty sure I'll take the Caddie... Pretty sure... It's a good parade car. It'll be worth more than the entire rest of the parade, but folks will like to see it.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:27:18 ago (+2/-0)

LordNougat says that he can move it, so he it going to attempt to do that!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:46:22 ago (+2/-0)

That'd be sweet. Be sure to keep our new archivist updated?

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:25:20 ago (+1/-0)

I think that folks would love to see it. It is a gorgeous car and pretty fucking rare to see these days.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 4 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:19:12 ago (+4/-0)

Fixed, thanks!

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:59:15 ago (+2/-0)

you put a bracket on the end of the link, not a closed parentheses

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 22:03:04 ago (+2/-0)

This really is the thread of errors.

Fixed for certain this time. Well, I'm pretty certain.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 22:04:27 ago (+2/-0)

Its a holiday, the brains checked out early!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 22:04:55 ago (+3/-0)

I am a bit tipsy.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 23:19:00 ago (+3/-0)

We are drinking beer and smoking pot and someone just stopped by with some marching powder and left and now I'm having another beer and smoking more pot while my woman talks and talks and talks

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 23:45:48 ago (+2/-0)

I'm with you all on that one. Another 15 minutes of streaming and I'll fire up some more weed and listen to your posts! The woman works the weekends, so it gives me stuff to do, while staying out of trouble. LOL

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 23:49:35 ago (+2/-0)

Cheers!

Hope you enjoy the music!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 14:58:01 ago (+1/-0)

Sweet!

I got the Caddie out and took it for a drive to ensure I'm used to it. I was wrong and it was behind another car. So, I had to find the keys for that. Fortunately, the keys are all labeled. However, it's a fuck of a lot of keys to go through - and then you better make sure you get the exact model and year correct, otherwise you're going to need a lot of keys.

Sadly, it was a 911 in front of it. I wasn't sure which exact model it was, so it took me like 10 sets of keys before I found the right set.

I'm pretty sure this isn't a problem that most people face.

Also, the Caddie's brakes are terrible. They're hydraulic-assisted drum brakes. They're pretty much useless if they get too hot. So, it's going to be a lot of driving in 1st gear during the parade. First gear is way too long for a parade. It bogs down if you shift into second when driving less than 25 or 30 mph. So, there's no idling in second gear to go parade-speed.

But, it's otherwise an interesting car. If feels like they're not straight-cut gears, which is nice. You don't need to double clutch, but you really want to blip the throttle (heel-toe) when downshifting.

So, the parade should be just fine and I shouldn't run anyone over. The brakes shouldn't get too hot and the road home is mostly uphill.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 15:38:48 ago (+1/-0)

I have heard that the brakes on most all old cars were terrible. I did not even think of that, but at parade speeds you should have plenty of braking power.

Having the keys for 10 different 911s and not knowing which ones are for which is a very uncommon problem, I can assure you LoL

I would me more worried about the brakes on the way down the mountain!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 17:24:33 ago (+1/-0)

I have a hot rod that I've never driven. I was kinda looking at it. It looked easy enough to jump start but there was another Porsche in front of that one too. However, that one is a GT3 race car (not street legal) and I'm not sure how to start it. I have no idea what the switches are because they're not labeled. There's a binder full of directions that came with it, along with like a spare door and bumper, but I wasn't going to go through all that.

I figure I've got enough brakes to get down to the parade. It's even further downhill to keep going (most of) the routes out of there. I'd have to do a lot of engine braking, which is kinda my plan already.

People drove this shit during the era. Of course, those people died a lot. The brakes appear to have some air cooling and they did fade but it was still okay. You really, really need to press on 'em hard after a while - but they were still stopping me.

In the parade, hopefully, I can just keep it in 1st and let the engine do the braking.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 17:32:31 ago (+1/-0)

You can always just push the clutch in and coast if you have to!

Thats funny that YOU don't even know how to start the race car!

[ - ] popticalillusion 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 00:20:37 ago (+1/-0)

Awesome job! Your different guitar tracks sound really good together. This was always one of my favorites to play live with an added guitar solo in the middle.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 15:02:57 ago (+1/-0)

That's a fun one to put together and, yeah, you get quite a bit of radio interference on military bases. They're radio hot spots, really. I used to carry a portable scanner when I could get away with it. Man, has that technology improved since then.

When we record, we tend to do all the tracks. It usually starts with me putting down the drum track and then playing to that like playing to a click track. We've reached the point where we're pretty efficient at this, as we've done a whole lot of recording in the past five+ years.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:58:40 ago (+3/-0)

Here is another song that Chris and I played out on the porch the other night.

I Love This Bar

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 00:33:59 ago (+2/-0)

Now that's one I have heard. Some good singing and playing!

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 00:40:15 ago (+2/-0)

Thank you very much. He had just taught me the chords of that song and then he got a text that his ride was on the way so we had one shot at it before he was gone, and the pressure brought out the best in him!

[ - ] popticalillusion 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 16:15:49 ago (+1/-0)

That's pretty impressive! I would much rather get the bulk of the recording done in one take, as long as I don't fuck it up too bad. LOL We used to do "Live" in the studio and then add some fills here and there. Those recordings were destroyed in a house fire, so I'm trying to get at least something recorded before my body spasses out and I can't play again.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 16:25:50 ago (+1/-0)

Sucks to her about the fire. Its nice with having our songs uploaded that we actually may not lose the music as long as the website is still up

[ - ] popticalillusion 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:25:30 ago (+3/-0)*

I didn't get anything finished, but I will post what I'm working on. I broke out the acoustic guitar and had some interference with the microphone so I just stopped there. I plan to replace all the guitar parts with my own, leaving just the drums and vocal (instrument) in the final version.

Peaceful Easy Feeling by the Eagles. None of the bands I were in ever covered it and it's been a favorite song of mine; so I'm learning it.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:33:03 ago (+3/-0)

Sounds good. Who was playing the accordian?

[ - ] popticalillusion 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:55:10 ago (+3/-0)

That's probably the vocal track that came with the Guitar Pro song. They only had the lead vocal, so I added a harmony track starting at the 2nd verse where they sing it in the song.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:56:30 ago (+3/-0)

Yeah I could hear you playing guitar. I just thought maybe you added the melody lines on an accordion or keyboard or something like that

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 22:26:10 ago (+2/-0)

Leaving that track in is much better than my singing ability. Maybe I'll try some back up vocals on a track, but if the neighbors dog starts howling I'm done. LOL I live in a hotel, and the neighbor with the adjoining door has a dog. So far it's been OK with my playing music and only seems to bark when the neighbor leaves it behind

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 23:17:28 ago (+2/-0)

You play electric guitars in the hotel? Thats awesome! Crank it!

[ - ] popticalillusion 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 23:41:18 ago (+1/-0)

With exception of the room adjoining door and the window, the place is really sound proofed, like living inside a studio. I caulked the windows myself, but I can't mess with the door in case of fire. I have noise restrictions from 10PM-8AM, but I have never received any complaints. I've been running the radio station out of here for 10 months, so I play a lot of music too because I have to screen the songs first to see if they are any good.

[ - ] popticalillusion 0 points 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 16:03:14 ago (+0/-0)

I edited my acoustic track better and remixed it some. I think i am ready to move on to the other guitar parts now and hope to be finished by next Friday. Peaceful Easy Feeling Edited Sounds a bit better now.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:04:05 ago (+3/-0)

Here is a song I wrote about a story told to me by a WWII vet years ago. It seems appropriate to share on Memorial weekend.

Battle of the Bulge

I really should try to re-record this and make it right, it was just so annoying to put it all together at the time, I got sick of doing it, it's so long and I was just happy to have got through it once without fucking it up too much.

[ - ] popticalillusion 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 00:50:34 ago (+1/-0)

Well, I like the music and the lyrics. I'm not great at singing, so I don't have any tips on making them fit together well.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 00:53:52 ago (+1/-0)

I just need to find a great singer willing to sing the lyrics I write! LoL

[ - ] popticalillusion 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 01:14:51 ago (+1/-0)

I know, finding "The Singer" is always the hardest part. I'm always like rearrange this when you sing it to fit this music I play; when I write lyrics for a song. I'll attempt to recreate some original music of my own and with bands later on.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 01:43:18 ago (+1/-0)

I think my friend Chris is an awesome singer, I feel so fortunate to have someone that sings and plays to jam along with that I am friends with. But he doesnt really want to play rock music he is more into folk and country and jethro tull type of stuff. Which ok, what the hell. I still get to play along and make him sound better. Just harmonizing on guitar. And Its fun for me. He tells me to sing my own songs cause in his head thats the way he hears them and it sounds right

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 20:01:37 ago (+3/-0)

My buddy Chris came over again the other day for a little while, and we sat out on the porch in the nice weather with no mosquitos and played a couple songs.

Here is us playing Merle Haggards White Boy

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 00:27:53 ago (+2/-0)

That's pretty dang good! I don't think I heard the original, but who knows my dad played this kind of music a lot when I grew up.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 00:37:40 ago (+1/-0)

Thanks. I had never heard it before. I thought my buddy was really singing great out there on the porch, thats just us sitting there playing and him singing into a cell phone. It sounds way better than one would think in those conditions, you can hear cars going by but the just add to it instead of distract. I thought those songs turned out great the other night

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 23:48:35 ago (+2/-0)

Last night my son had some friends over and they had a cookout in the back yard and were drinking up a big giant bottle of crown royal. After we ate, my woman went and fell asleep so I went and visited the drunk people for a little while. My son asks me if I want some magic mushrooms and I said hell yeah and at a handful of them. I came in for another beer when they hit me, and I saw my guitar and I picked it up and played it all fucked up and shrooming. I just played where the music lead me. I recorded some of it, and it's nothing I ever played before but I think its cool

Acoustic Jam

[ - ] ChatGPT 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 23:59:11 ago (+1/-0)

You're right that does sound really cool. Like Ravi Shankar sitar hook. That theme throughout is really catchy. Throw in like a drone sound and it'll be an dot Indian song.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 00:11:47 ago (+1/-0)

I am not a dot indian LoL I am however a small part native american indian but I dont know, I got no control over that. I just played and let it happen, I am happy that you enjoyed it, thats awesome, and thank you!

[ - ] popticalillusion 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 01:02:30 ago (+1/-0)

Damn some of that in there was pretty quick! I like it! I never played after eating shrooms, because I did those before I had the proper pain relieving meds that allow me to play some now. It must be a challenge when all the dots fall off the fret-board. LOL Great playing!

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 1.9 yearsMay 27, 2023 01:06:50 ago (+1/-0)

I know. I was surprised myself. I kind of remember playing it and I know I knew exactly what notes I wanted somehow and I just went for it. I was more listening than playing, but i had to pay attention to the playing. I dont know, it seems hard to describe, you can hear me fuck up and do it over a few times. But its like I was just letting it rip, LoL

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 20:20:48 ago (+2/-0)

You posted this in v/all somehow.

I just checked.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 20:41:16 ago (+2/-0)

what a moron

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 20:51:07 ago (+2/-0)

Should I make another? Can this be moved?

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:19:39 ago (+3/-0)

It's too late now. Let @popticalillusion know so that it still gets archived, I guess.

[ - ] popticalillusion 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:26:51 ago (+3/-0)

I'll save the post so I can get back to it easily.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:45:59 ago (+2/-0)

Good idea and thanks!

LOL Don't blame me! I didn't do it!

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:34:18 ago (+2/-0)

I think he knows LoL

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:47:58 ago (+2/-0)

He does appear to know. That's good.

LOL I didn't even know you could post to /all. I have no idea how you did that, 'cause I've never done it.

Maybe you didn't have 'guitar' in the drop down? I suppose there's a first time for everything. Well, almost everything. I will never go both backwards and forwards at the same time, or at least not in time.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:54:20 ago (+2/-0)

It was not intentional. I am not sure how that happened

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:57:02 ago (+2/-0)

It has been moved to the Guitar subverse!

it seems that our mistakes have been repaired!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 21:59:03 ago (+2/-0)

LOL Now the URL that @popticalillusion saved is probably no longer any good. Let's try not to confuse 'em too much.

Thanks for the fix, @lordnougat!

[ - ] popticalillusion 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 22:39:24 ago (+3/-0)

The link still works. Maybe he moved it before I saved it.

So, while I got you; Do you get interference from cell phones? I think I had mine too close to the microphone this time. When I recorded my electric guitar tracks the distance was much greater.

Also the un-repair job on the amp worked great. I get some really killer sound but no reverb, channel switching, or volume control. I'll just add effects after recording, and the Metal Muff distortion box will give me channel switching from clean to distortion anyway.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 22:56:22 ago (+3/-0)

Or maybe the link redirects to the new one?

Does your link contain 'all' in it?

And, yeah, a cell phone causes interference depending on the channels it's using. This is less true with more modern phones but you can often put a phone near speakers and hear the interference.

[ - ] popticalillusion 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 23:54:31 ago (+2/-0)

I see now, the link says submitted to Guitar.

When I first started learning guitar I lived on an Air Force base and could pick up radio signals from time to time. I'm glad I wasn't attempting to record back then. At my 2nd base I lived much further from the flight-line and didn't have any problems recording.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 22:03:36 ago (+2/-0)

@system moved it, he beat @LordNougat to it!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 3 points 1.9 yearsMay 26, 2023 22:04:34 ago (+3/-0)

Well, at least we know they can fix it.

We should probably avoid that in the future, but shit does happen.
