Burger here, what's VAT? The ones on film are the great examples of people maximizing their efforts. As long as it looks like you put it in a store bag and have a receipt, the stores do not obstruct.

Spending a year out there taught me the habit of holding my receipt so the "door guard" can check I'm not a thief.

Isn't VAT=tax? (that thing thats not on the price tag and drives tourists crazy?)

Anyway I am thinking, just figure out the highest tax there is for sales in your state calculate that into your stealing so you neever hit 950 and just get enough food or what ever .

We just call it sales tax. Usually only state level, but counties and cities can add on.

At best gov misses out 7.5-9% on the stolen goods. I don't believe the tax is included in the $950

The door guards either stop every single person or they stop anybody who has unbagged, big, or bulky items.
